I'd like to see a shot of these joints on your driveline with zero surface rust. I've never seen one without some, even new.

Same with this area on the axle. Only time I've seen these perfect is when it's on a replacement axle coming outta the box. Not saying this isn't a little heavier surface rust (but it's kinda blurry, I can't tell), but you say yours is "spotless ,looks brand new". Snap some pics and get back to us. I'm legitimately curious. Maybe your truck was undercoated before you bought it?

Too lazy, or afraid what you'll find is exactly what you are telling the OP is cancer and trying to make him worry for no reason?

"Unacceptable", is what the dealer did that sold that truck I pictured the frame of. The OPs rig? he has ZERO to worry about unless he's moving to the rust belt and plans to live there and drive that truck for the next 10 years. In that case, he should get it fluid filmed, coated, or whatever the best preventive methods are.

And his dealership did nothing wrong.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
What others said. Just clean and coat the bad spots.

i am amazed though that people buy a used vehicle without doing a full underside inspection first.

For 3 used cars, I have had the dealers put the car on their hoist so I could go under and do a full inpection. With pry bar and rubber mallet in hand to check for slop.

For 2 used 4x4s including my Tacoma, I just brought my coveralls with me and scoot under, again with prybar to check for suspension looseness, rust, oil leaks, etc. I love doing this while the salesman stand there and sweat…

Don’t take the chance of buying used based on word of mouth.

Not too bad as others have noted. Definitely knock the rust down with a wire wheel, red scotch brite pad or other and spray some black rustoleum paint on it. Primer it before paint if you want.

I saw this laser method for rust removal awhile back. Thought it was pretty neat. Likely expensive though.

Toyota mailed me a letter a while back. Said my 2017 frame was covered for 10 years under warranty if rust ever became an issue. No rust in AZ though. :bananadead:

WD-40 makes a spray on product to "kill rust". I used it on my 1979 VW bus frame.

The majority of the parts pictured are high strength steel parts on rotating components, or exhaust parts. These rust on all makes and models. The only thing worth concerning yourself with is any rust on the body and frame. Ignore the rest. Rust isn’t going to affect your driveline, and everyone needs a new exhaust eventually. A rotten frame is a real issue, so brush it off, paint it black, hit it with fluid film, and repeat every year.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It’s definitely a mistake on my part not checking undercarriage. I’m going to clean it up, use rust converter, and cover it with fluid film. Hopefully I can keep it for a good amount of time, but only time will tell. Until then I’ll enjoy the truck

Pretty sure Toyota started protecting the frames in 2019. Mine has the white snot sprayed into the boxed part of the frame and they plugged all the holes with plastic plugs. If you look I’m sure yours has those same plugs and if you pop one off and stick a finger inside it will come out with that white snot. So the inside of parts of your frame are protected you just need to wire wheel then repaint some parts of your frame as has been recommended. Then apply fluid film or whatever coating you prefer. I live in the rust belt bought my 2019 new and I treat my undercarriage every fall with fluid film and it still looks pretty new. Each summer I wire wheel whatever needs it like my rock sliders then repaint takes a few hours no big deal relax your truck is fine dealer did not try to screw you.

Drive one day in the snow and this is what any Toyota undercarriage looks like. Sounds like everyone here keeps their car in a garage and just stares at it. OP its fine

Most of your pics are of unpainted untreated raw cast iron parts, and the exhaust flange. Unless treated quickly from the showroom floor, those will rust immediately. Prep, and protect, then enjoy your new to you ride. Ski

My 2011 looked like that when it came off the lot in 2010. Still going strong after almost 14 years in eastern Canada rustbelt. Undercoated annually, if not it would look like post #6. I'm envious of vehicle owners unfamiliar with vehicle rust.

Be careful....rust in California causes cancer! Prop 64 says so. Better sell it to someone outside of California! Go buy a new Subaru....
