Hello all. I had a quick question about Blind Spot Monitoring. In a 2023 Tacoma, is there always a button for that on the dash (under the radio)? I have someone that is telling me that a truck I am interested in has BSM. But there is no button for it on the dash/console, so I am a bit hesitate.

    Thank you all.

If it has it yes there will be a button for it by the ECT button. Not all have it though, I have a 2020 sport and it has it but my 21 off-road does not.

I have seen on TW where a Tacoma had BSM but the previous owner re-purposed the button hole with something else.

Thank you for the responses. This simply doesn't seem to have it. Although the description and the salesperson says it does...I don't see the button or any signs of them repurposing, so my guess is it never had it. Oh well, off too look at some other Tacomas.

    Thanks all.

If you have round back up sensors in the rear bumper (4 of them), then you have BSM. If not, then you don't, unless it's an aftermarket system, which is doubtful.

Post #6 shows where the BSM sensors are located in the bumper. Post #15 shows the BSM button.

Back when I was on a waitlist for my 2023, my dealership contacted me to share an email from Toyota stating they would be temporarily shipping some trucks without BSM (due to chip shortages) even though it was included on the build sheet. My dealership's solution was to add an aftermarket BSM product... I said no thanks, but when the truck finally arrived, I was surprised to find it had the factory BSM.

I wonder if any 2023 Tacomas were actually shipped missing BSM when they should have had it.

Not always. The BSM sensors are not visible. Just because you have parking sensors does not always mean that you have blind spot sensors. Check for the button on the dash and the BSM icon on both side view mirrors.

I stand corrected. I thought BSM and backup sensors were part of the tech package... live and learn.

I was wondering myself after your comment. I know chrome bumper caps = no BSM, but thought I’d seen them in conjunction with parking sensors around town

Can't you look up the "as-built" truck specs via the VIN?

I thought someone here had done that before somewhere.

Hello all. Now a follow-up question. If the truck (2021) has BSM, does it also have Rear cross traffic detection?

That’s correct. Rear cross traffic alert uses the BSM sensors and the two are mutually inclusive

@musicisevil - thank you. That is a good to know. Okay last question, both these trucks are 2021 (both accident free). Any reason why one has, I guess to cameras (?) in the back vs the one on the other? These may not even be cameras.....I personally don't know.

    Thanks again.

Those are the backup sensors... should be two more lower on the bumper.

    @pMill
It’s odd that the top picture only has a sensor on the passenger side…
Like Bert said they are the parking sensors, and there should be 4 total. That truck in the top pic warrants a thorough inspection with a fine tooth comb. I’ll bet one of the bumper caps has been replaced.
It’s hard to tell from that pic but it doesn’t look like it has the two sensors in the center. Care to share links or uncropped photos?

@musicisevil @Bertw192 - That is what concerned me. Since they are both the same year (2021) I would think the camera positioning would be similar. But one clearly is missing the one on the drivers side. Unfortunately, I will probably rule out that one since both have a fee to get them sent to our location. Thanks for the info.
