Howdy everyone. Purchased a set of a aftermarket Tundra tow mirrors for my '10 tacoma. Not plug and play (set up for tundra plug...totally different connector).

As you know the stock taco mirrors only have left/right and up/down functionality. The aftermarket tundra mirrors have these plus turn signal lights, reverse light, and heat.

Have searched all over the forum and can't find anyone who's done this before. Basically I need to tap into the left and right turn signal circuits independently, as well tap into the reverse light circuit. Preferably would like to tap in near the dash, like from the fuse box using an add a fuse or something like that...rather than having to run wire all the way to the source (turn signal lights or tail lights themselves).

Any advice on where to tap in for turn signals and reverse light? Heat is less of a priority (Florida weather). Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the links vwbuggsy. Got em at topgearautosport.com.

Took some extensive modding to get them installed. The 3 new mirror bolts were spread further apart than the factory holes. Had to drill some new holes into the door with a big 3/4" bit. Hardest part was all the trial and error tapping into wires trying to figure out which did what. Then passed the mirror wires through the door grommet to splice into tail light harness under the fuse box. Passenger side mirror wires had to go through the door grommet and all the way across under the dash to reach the harness. Took about 12 hours total between the drilling and wiring but looks pretty sweet now. Will upload some pics in daylight.

Also here's the wiring diagram specifically for those lights in case anyone wants to have a go at installing these on a truck they were never meant to be on haha. Should save you about 6 hours of painful labor haha

And before I forget, here are the live wires I tapped into

Up/down, Left/right: original mirror wires. Cut plug and splice.

    From the tail light harness:
    White with black tracer: ground
    Yellow: driver blinker
Blue with white tracer: passenger blinker

From a plug right above the fuse box
    Red wire in pic: reverse

Note: I didn't set up the blind spot indicator (truck doesn't have sensor) or the heat (Florida weather and would require a separate switch)

Wow, that's a fair bit of fiddling for those mirrors!

I'm still waiting for the glamor shots of the new mirrors on the truck to decide if it's all worth it...

Any progress? I'd love to see even one pic of these in place on a Taco. Also, what year Tundra?

The good: they look badass. Visibility is improved so much it's unreal. Especially with the dedicated convex mirror. Feels big-truck esque haha. And the turn signals are pretty cool too. Will be doing some towing this summer and the extended mode will be nice.

The bad: it was a lot of custom work to get them installed. they're not exactly "flush" with the body. To be expected tbh... These were meant for a significantly larger truck so the dimensions are off...the triangle sits like 1 inch off the door panel. You don't really notice it too much unless you come up close. Might whistle a bit at highway speeds. Any ideas for what kind of filler material may be good to fill in the gap?

I love the way those look, I really do, from far away. Even in douche bag mode, LOL! They change the look of the truck tremendously.

But you're right the way they lay up (or don't) against the door really kills it up close for me.

I'm not sure how to fill it. You could try a heat gun to bend it closer but that might just ruin things, it sure would if I tried it. Maybe mask of the body with masking tape and fill it in with a chopped fiberglass filler (like bondo hair)? Or glass mat and resin. Maybe one of the smarter folks on the forum will have ideas.

Could you adapt the arm of the tundra mirrors to the base of the Tacoma mirrors somehow?

Yeah totally. Definitely abrupt edges up close. Funny you mentioned the heat gun...was thinking about that earlier. Thanks for the recs. Clever thinking about the base adaptation...after looking at them I don't think it'd be possible. But I ordered some waterproof putty and will be giving it a shot...updated pics to come...work in progress!

Yeah the only plug and play ones I found were dodge with tacoma plug. And dodge is the enemy

I coppied you OP, but instead of using that putty I just put some weatherstripping between tbe mirror and body. It doesn't look too bad, might come up with a more permanant solution, but probably not lol20200131_143108.jpg 20200131_143115.jpg
