Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.

It could be worse; you could have bought a ram. Your complaints are minor compared to the problems you would have faced with a ram.

huh...I must be incredibly lucky. I sold my '94 Ram at 240K when I bought my '03 Ram which I just sold at 295K downgrading to the 2023 Taco in October. Following a regimented maintenance schedule I never had a single engine/trans issue nor any oil leaks. Did need to rebuild the half shaft in the '03 and replace the fuel pump. Wheel bearings and many u-joints in both. My '02 Ram 2500 (pictured in the What's Your Other Vehicle thread here) has 160K hard miles on it as I use it to plow our mile long dirt road to our house. I guess pretty lucky again since it's still original untouched engine and trans after all these years pushing a 1000lb snow plow and 40+ feet of snow in the winters (tho it did have a real easy winter this past one, only got about 18 feet). Did just replace the bed because it was about to fall off and rebuild the half shaft in this one too. Proper maintenance and care go a long way. I've always believed that Toyota guys, no matter the generation, maintain their vehicles better than most hence the better track record in the longevity department.

And I apologize for the long winded off topic post in my rebuttal to the couple of posts with such vitriol towards non-Toyota vehicles. In the handful of forums that I skim through, this one ranks number one in projective identification. Must be an age thing.

You must have gotten lucky. Mine was in the shop every 30K miles for exhaust manifold replacement under warranty. Last year the rear end was replaced under warranty. This last time ram cancelled my warranty and walked away from it because they didn’t want to spend the money to replace the motor after the lifters seized taking out the camshafts and the rest of the motor. That leaves me with a truck wit a little over 120K on it that doesn’t run. It was always properly maintained and I used Pennzoil Ultra platinum synthetic oil as recommended by the manufacturer. Blackstone labs analyzed the oil from every oil change showing everything was fine until the last oil change. I did the last oil change before I started noticed the ticking from the engine. That oil change showed a problem. As soon as it started ticking I took it in to be fixed. The dealer determined it was the camshaft and submitted a claim to ram. It then took ram 6 weeks to approve the first bit of work to be done. By the time ram stopped work on it 5 months had lapsed. When I first dropped it off, it was 1 of 3 trucks at this small dealership with the same problem. One of the service advisors told me they had several trucks there with different issues that had been there for 10 months. No confidence in that brand or any other brand that is made by stelantis.

I wouldn’t try to put a child in any of there vehicles. I don’t trust their vehicles enough to put a child in one.

Compared to my 3 (new) Dodge service vehicles and one personal (bought new) Ram 1500 you were incredibly lucky. 3 tows to to the dealer where they finally resolve electrical problems that required a new ECU, 1 new cyl head (4 weeks in the shop), a plastic intake manifold, out of balance ring gear causing a rear end rebuild at 40Kmiles on a babied truck and the scary death wobbles at very inopportune times. Dodge was the biggest POS truck I've ever owned, they might be better now I'll never buy another.

LOL... I have a Porsche 914/6 and most peeps think it's a Miata.
But this comes back to the point of if you come from small car ownership the Tacoma is huge, but on the other hand if you're coming from owning a full size pickup or SUV likely you'll find the interior quite small.
