I, personally, do not care for bourbons...to each their own. I like Canadian whiskies. Pendleton is my favorite; and Scotch, my favorite is Glenmorangie original.

Keep in mind accessibility. For me I agree with your #1 and my other two would be Taylor small batch and Stagg

I almost put EH Taylor small batch in place of the CYPB for that specific reason.

Quick review on big Texas comparo whiskey night.

Silver Star: Young, very ethanol forward, decent corn taste mid palate, a little dry and hot at the finish. I took a few sips and let the taste linger for a while. It’s got good potential, but only if it ages longer. Good mixer, kinda reminds me of plastic bottle Seagrams.

Balcones Blue Corn: my wife likes the bottle color. It’s very distinctive, and dark, never had anything like it before. Straight, it really smacks you with the blue corn flavor. Some are going to hate it. After a few sips, I really like the funky, dusty note, and brown sugar. Threw two ice cubes at it, and it was a game changer, suddenly, I really liked it. If you aren’t into unique bourbon tastes, you probably won’t like it.

Balcones Red label: corn whiskey. I gotta say, I really like this one straight. It’s another unique offering, brown sugar, sweeter, bold mid palate, really flavorful, non traditional. I will keep one of these bottles on the shelf for sure.

Had to use up some store credit at one of my spots, this was my best choice. I'm not a fan of Port finishes. I may end up opening it, or trading it. IMG_1090.jpg

Trade it. I had one, traded it having never tried one, tried it recently, and was glad I’d made the trade. Like you I’m not a port finish guy.

I'll second this. It's VERY porty. If that's not your thing, you're unlikely to enjoy.

LOL, I kinda dig the port and sherry finishes these days. Eventually I want to put together a YouTube channel, and do some interesting reviews. Gotta get more samples!

It’s better than act 10 but it’s VERY port forward, enough where I was kinda put off and I generally love port finish
