    Upgraded shocks.
Hey 5 Lug Fury. I installed 4600 shocks up front yesterday. Big improvement. I’m wanting to do the rear with 4600 shocks today and a shackle flip. Is the flip as simple as it sounds and will it work with the 4600 shocks. Or do I need to order the 5100 shocks???? I may place 1” spacers up front later after I test it out like this. It could use a tiny bit more gap for the Mustang wheels. Thanks

Got a lot of stuff lol
The hardest part of the flip is removing the body rivets. If you know someone with a air chisel or a plasma cutter it will help greatly. One the rivets and stock hanger is gone the new hangers just bolt in. If you plan to lift the rear at all I would suggest 5100s or even the 5100s with resivors (I think they're 5160s) just make sure it for a stock 6 lug height. Technically I did run stock 6 lug TRD shocks at stock ride height but would bottom the shocks out when I would jump the truck lol.

Hey, just wondering since everything is so difficult to find for the slugs. Does someone who has or had an exhaust on their 5 lug have a nice sounding exhaust that’s pretty cheap? If so let me know :)

This is what I'm currently running: https://www.magnaflow.com/products/...ro-series-cat-back-performance-exhaust-system

With a 4 cylinder engine it's going to be difficult to find something that doesn't sound like a riced out Subaru. I feel like this kit is a nice compromise; honestly it just sounds like a louder version of the stock exhaust. If you're looking for something cheap, cut the muffler and weld on a glasspack. That'll have you sounding like every stanced Honda Civic at 3am though. This kit isn't super pricey compared to some other stuff I've seen (a basic performance exhaust for my wife's V6 Camaro starts at $900+) and it's a direct fit, no welding or cutting required. The hangers are welded to the system to line up with the stock hangers on your Tacoma. Personally, I like the turn-down exhaust tip that cuts down behind the rear axle, as it gets rid of that god-awful side pipe behind the rear passenger tire.

Feel free to hit me up with any questions :)

    Hey Everyone!
I just did a Shackle Flip on my 5 lug and have some things to add/confirm for the discussion!

I installed the @ARCHIVE Shackle Flip Kit https://archivegarage.com/explore-archive/ols/products/premiumtacomasfk
on my 5-lug Dbl Cab and had success.

    Context/What was already installed:
3" ReadyLift Spacer / Bilstein 4600 in the front
1.5" ReadyLift AAL / Bilstein 5100 in the rear + 5-lug SumoSprings (Yes we have our own, vehicle-specific sumos!)

Purchased the Shackle Flip with the EXTRA M12 Frame Bolts and Drill Bits.
Install was a PITA (10hrs), but very straightforward

I'm no leaf spring expert, but Tacomas have different LENGTHs of leaf springs which affect where the shackle hangers must be positioned for proper geometry.

You get decent diagrams and references for which bracket position to use, but I immediately saw that since our SUA springs curve way more compared to 6-lug SOA, more forward bracket positioning is required, aka drilling the frame.

For this reason, I was NOT able to use the 4 original rivet/bolt holes and had to drill 4 new holes in the frame, using the bracket as a guide for where to drill.
I used the 4.75" Shackles, Brackets in the most forward possible position, and I got fantastic results.

About 2" of lift compared to the before, goes down to about 1.5" of lift under load. Huge improvement over the slightly-squatted look I had with the AAL alone. The Slug is finally level with a few degrees of rake to account for squatting under load.

    IMPORTANT:

    Shocks:
You will need longer shocks and brake lines to get the most out of these brackets. The 5100s came up about 2" too short to bolt into the lower shock points while at full droop. I've ordered Bilstein 5125s which should be the right length but I'll confirm when those come in. You can run the 5100s with the shackle flip but your shocks effectively serve as the limit straps and you do not want to bottom out your shocks this way or you can damage them. This is temporary until the longer shocks come in.

    Brake Lines:
You will need longer brake lines for full droop. I had to unbolt my brake lines to install the shackle flip and could only bolt them back once the vehicle was under its own weight. Ideally you install the longer brake lines before you do this install, but as long as you don't go full droop, you won't put any more tension on them than there was before.

To reiterate, under the 5100 stroke length, the stock brake lines are fine. At the new full droop, which is 2" lower than 5100s allow, you'll need longer shocks and brake lines.

Noteworthy: My stock exhaust now touches the leaf springs at full droop, but only at full droop. Can be fixed by bending the exhaust hanger or cutting the exhaust. I've bent my hanger for now.

It is a bit of a pain to get them right but I did like the results I got. If you need longer brakelines 6 lug extended ones fit fine. We need more photos of the whole truck though lol

Hey all, new here but been lurking like so many others who make their first posts. I've got an 06 5 lug that I've cleaned up and updated since getting it last month with 91k on the clock.

I've got the readylift kit with the 2.75 front and AAL rear. I've seen a posts somewhere I can no longer find about how the 2WD leafs are different than the 4WD leafs due to SUA needing more of a curve (spring) than the SOA. However, most sites I'm looking at seem to be selling the same leaf springs kits stating they're compatible with both 2WD and 4WD models.

So, do I have a fabricated memory of that post (that I can't find/don't know if they were right) saying different springs are needed?

2wd doesn't always means 5 lug. All pre-runners are 2wd and 6 lug with the soa suspension.

Copy that and thanks for chiming in. Sites I’ve been looking at only indicate they’re applicable for both 2WD and 4WD. None get specific on 5 lug or 6 lug.

So, there is a physical difference between leaf packs meant for the SUA vs those for the SOA? Or, are the shackles the true deciding factor?

5 lugs are more like a smiley face and 6 lug is more of a stale face. The shackle is actually the same.

Ok, and stock leaf springs are the same from 05 and up regardless of 5 and 6 lug / 2WD and 4WD?

No 5 lugs are on they're own specific springs because of the arch built in for the spring under axle.

Ok, thank you. I was looking at a killer deal on a 6 lug leaf pack that already had a 2" lift already installed. Was hoping that if I added the readylift AAL when I got it, I'd be dialed. Doesn't seem that's possible, though.

    Thanks again for your help.

Yeah no worries the information out there is confusing especially as we move more on in time since 5 lugs have discontinued

As far as I know there's no suspension difference between them. They're all 2nd gen. As far as leafs you can add aals or even some of your older leafs as much as you want. Just gotta make sure they get longer as they move from the center and are stacked properly, youll just need a longer center pin. Honestly those hd leafs would probably enough for most people.
