Is anyone getting 22 mpg on the highway in a 2022 Tacoma V-6 4WD? I am wondering if my transmission needs a software update. My stereo head unit needed one the first week I owned the truck. What happened to Tacoma quality when they moved production to Mexico?

I would love to get 22!! Haven't seen that since day one. Now I'm getting 12.7 tops. Enjoy it!

Thanks. I have gotten around 19.5 so far. And sometime in 4WD I can get 20.3. Doesn't make much sense to me.

What conditions are you driving in 4WD? Sounds off.

2019 V6 AC 4wd here with 50k on the clock. On the highway we can see anything from about 17 mpg (cold air, 75 mph, hilly terrain and cruise control up to 23 mpg warmer air, 65 mph, relatively flat terrain, limited cruise use). The biggest factor is probably speed....you're pushing a lot of air.

Good point. It's been windy and cold. Maybe warmer air and no wind will help. Thanks.

We've had slush and snow on the roads. And I put about 200# of weight in back for traction. I was really surprised when mileage improved. I wonder how accurate the mileage gauge really is.

Track your miles driven and amount of gas to fillup.
Phone apps such as fuelly do it for you. It accurately calculates your mpg. My mpg gauge is accurate within +/- .5 mpg

I cant drive 65 more like 80 in SoCal. Average around 18.5 but can get it to 23 if I drive like a granny which is rare to never.

I've been driving like a granny and can't get to 20 mpg. Going to hurt more when gas goes over $5 gal.

Cold starts and driving until the truck gets to normal operating temp really cuts down the mpg's. Winter gas does too. Just a guess,,, when you were running in 4wd you were running a little slower than normal? And probably pretty easy on the gas? It'll take a little time but you'll figure your truck out. You're asking the right questions though. Hope this helps.

Thanks. You are probably right. It should improve with warmer weather.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Need some cheese to go with that?
There are many threads on TW regarding MPGs. Search for them.
Some exaggerate what the getting, some are honest.
MPGs depend on many things, but key are weight, configuration and driving habits.
My overall average from day 1 is 17.9 MPG. High was 21.2 100% on an interstate. Low was 15.0 towing my 2000 lb tractor on a 1500 lb trailer.

Everyone’s fuel economy takes a hit in winter. Winter blend gas has less energy per gallon.

If you want maximum economy do not use cruise control to prevent shifting on grades. Don’t drive above speed limit.

The ethanol in winter gas causes a 2-3 mpg loss, but the fuel lines don't freeze

I pull about 14-15 mpg city with a little highway. Closer to the 16-17 on longer highway trips unloaded. 2016 with 84k and 285's stock gears. Glad my payment is low, gas is like my second car payment at the moment ha
