Of course I mean wheeling, camping, shenanigans, and fuckery. @Blue Canary started the last two, @MattJakobs started the two before that, and @Twizted started at least one the year before. I figure since Blue Canary didn't start the new one yet, I would jump in (no pressure).

Next question; how do I tag everyone who was following the 2023 Fuckery thread so we can close that one down?

Starting off the year partially right, I went solo camping over the long weekend. I knew a storm was going to bring snow into the Sierras, and I didn't want to drive 5 hours to the only beach I know you can camp on, so I went to the southern edge of the Coast Range. After just a 9 mile dirt road along Walker Ridge, I found a nice spot overlooking Indian Valley Reservoir.

    Walker Ridge

Indian Valley Reservoir (from Cold Spring Mountain)

View of camp on BLM land

    View from Camp

After a nice morning at camp, I drove down to Indian Valley Reservoir. My goal was to get to Letts Lake, further north, but I ran into problems. I took a spur that leads to 16N06, but with all the rain, the clay was difficult.

Had to back up (while sliding)

Once a bit to passenger, I made it up this part.

But then I got to here...

You can see from my tracks how far I could get in the sticky clay. I guess All Terrains aren't the same as Mud Terrains.

The evidence of my attempts. I ended up trying to back down, but mostly sliding. I managed to get the trailer to turn and go over those small manzanita, and was able to turn around here. Getting back down was a little hairy. I had to use the brake so the trailer brakes would keep the trailer from passing me while using throttle to be able to steer. I had fun, but was also nervous of sliding off the road.

Once I got back to the lake, plan B was to take M5 which sounds like a major route. It turns out, Bartlett Springs Road (which I was on) is separated from M5 by the North Fork of Cache Creek. I didn't know there is no bridge, and the creek is more like a river after a few days of rain in late December.

Creek crossing #1. It is going fast and looks to be more than 3' deep.

Creek Crossing #1 at a different angle.

I saw on the map that there might be another point to cross upstream. I went to check that out.

    Creek crossing #2

That wasn't going to work either. What about further upstream?

I don't think I can get the Toyota on there, and I know if I do, the Bean won't fit with it.

I decided to give up on Letts Lake and camp at a place overlooking Clear Lake instead. I saw some pretty rocks on the way.

    Narrow road

    Pretty rock in the dirt.

Pretty rock with trees growing out of it.

Eventually I saw Clear Lake and decided to go to town and at least wash off some of the mud I had collected on that spur road.

After going to town, I came back up the hill to camp here. I was hoping for fireworks, and heard some at 9:00 and at 10:00, but never saw any. They may have been gunshots. I think I fell asleep before midnight.

    This was my waking view.

Then I drove out to Clearlake Oaks. Here is my parting shot for my first day of Fuckery in 2024.

Hoping for extra fuckery this year. I have plans for a trip to White Rim in June. Other than that I have couple other things I’m talking to buddies about, but nothing set in stone yet

Awesome way to start the year @SwagThor !! I hunted off Walker Ridge couple couple months ago, saw that same view. I’m hoping for more trips this year! I did start the year off with some crabbing off Tomales Bay on a buddy’s boat.

Off to a trip to Nevada tomorrow morning. No camping but will be wheeling through the desert to check out some old mine sites, ghost towns, and petroglyphs.
Will pass through Fallon, Hawthorne, and parts of Pony Express.

    Nevada Part 1:

Scenic drive up 50 with snow covered trees. Made our way onto 395 and the trail head. Offroad on the trail into Virginia city, checked out some points of interest and drove through downtown Virginia City, awesome one road down town with plentiful shops and eatery. Made our way off pavement and back onto the trail. Took the trail through the desert, passed through a river, military base, military bomb testing area, parts of the the Pony Express trail, washed out roads and burms, and made our way to Fallon Nevada. Had some good pizza at Pizza Barn and called it a night.

Went from 3rd Gen Taco to 3GT4R to 2nd Gen Taco and finally a V8 4GT4R.
Do all auto places have customer toolboxes for use for these types of parking lot repairs? That's so cool that they have that.
