Anyone have photos of how you carry 4x8 sheet goods?

Very nice! I work in aero as well. Hope the exhibition goes well, and that your crate survives the ocean! (I'm sure it will).

I always hated making 4x10 sheets, though the really crappy stuff was 5x10! Only laid that up a couple times, but it was memorable apparently.

    Thanks!

    Aeros, Unite! :D

It has to survive and bring these home. The hope is that they are reusable for several trips.

It is interesting how far standards have crept into our lives. I checked a few different places that weren't wholesale for the 4x10. If it goes well, I might try to see if I can do the same with 4x8s and no waste.

For y'all who load plywood and sheetrock on the crossmembers, which is also my set-up, do you worry about the crossmembers sagging? The "sleeping bed platform" guys mostly seem to favor a vertical 2x support running the length of the bed under their crossmembers to help support their weight. The more involved we get about additional supports/frame rails/etc the more complicated it gets, and a simple set-up for hauling 4x8s should be simple!

As long as the sheet goods can handle a little flex, I don’t worry about it. I toss junky 2x4s down, lay the sheets on ‘em, ratchet a strap on the back end, and drive normally. Keep it simple. Maybe some of these guys are “cabinet makers” or something?!

This was the load out on February 12th:

    IMG_0640.jpg

Freaking hilarious results of all that work? Well, the crates were supposed to be loaded to a ship in Montreal, but the rails were blocked by protestors. The shared container was rerouted to Norfolk, where given the timing, it would have missed the exhibition. Luckily / Unluckily, the show was Covid Cancelled. So, the crates are on a return voyage. I will see them again in early June.

A bunch of my tools that were needed for the setup and such are tucked into one of those. I've needed the drill and extension cord a few times so far.

That thing is a champ. I have abused it badly over the past 20yrs and have hauled 2yds of bark in it more times than I can count.

Those two crates were only about 600lb total.

I keep thinking about a heavier axle for it with larger wheels. It is time to spoon on new tires. I store it folded in our garage, so they still look like they are in good shape.

Apologies to revive an old thread but wanted to add my no-drill method that piggybacks on the one originally posted by @RichVT . Same idea but I used (2) of the 68965-04020 tailgate strap bolts and replaced the top bolt of the tailgate striker latch. Inspiration for this came out of this thread and ultimately I found this reddit post where someone did it before me. Thanks to everyone for posting your ideas and helping the community!

Can’t wait to see someone try this with half a dozen sheets of drywall and a dozen 2x4’s.

Like this but with the tailgate halfway up on a short bed. You know someone will think it’s brilliant.
