I'm considering changing out my speakers. Currently have Focals installed and they are 4 ohm. I'm running a Pioneer WC6600 NEX but using the stock JBL amp that came with the truck.

I plan on replacing the amp hopefully this year. Not sure which one right now cause I want to get it installed in the same place the stock amp is.

Just wondering if I would get any benefit in replacing the current front and rear speakers with a lower ohm rating.

unfortunately, your biggest problem is the jbl amp. it's tuned specifically for the oem speakers, so as long as that exists, there's really nothing to gain from changing speakers except lightening your wallet.

    OK That's what I thought.

Do you know what Amp I could replace the JBL amp with, in the same location.

I already have a Maestro DSR1 and the wiring harness to plug into the OEM harness. I would like to do a 5 channel amp.

the biggest thing with the jbl amp is that each individual speaker is separately amplified--you have a total of 7 individual speaker outputs from the amp. front dash tweeters, front doors, rear doors, and sub.

so while you could use a 5-channel amp, you'd also need to install passive crossover unit for the front door and dash tweeter. generally, this is going to take more space than where the factory amp is located. alternatively, audison makes 8+ channel amps that could directly take the place of the jbl, but they start around $1500 for only the amp, and take some significant time to program, as the sound controls need to be properly in place to prevent blowing out speakers--you'd be directly connecting to each speaker, and programming the amp to divide the frequencies between speakers.

once you get into aftermarket amps, i don't believe you need most of the maestro functionality anymore. any aftermarket amp would also get RCA cables from the radio in front for the signal.

you'll also need to run new power and ground wiring for any new amp, as the factory wire is not sufficient for power needs of a new amp.

in general, there's no great way out of the jbl system for less than about $2000, and that'd be only for the parts if you're installing yourself. it could quickly close in on $5,000 once a certified installer is needed to do any of the work.

I bought this one specifically because it fits in the oem location,

    https://www.cdtaudio.com/cdtnew22/products/components/amps/acd5ch.php

Im gonna be 100% clear, I have not installed it yet and there is very little info if any out there, at least that I could find. I shipped it off to theamplab to have them test it for me and verify CDT power claims and still waiting to get it back with the results. Supposed to get it back next week sometime.

I do have a pic of it in the oem location to show fitment, youd have to get a bit custom with the brackets to make a cradle with some vibration reduction but fits incredibly well
