These two speak highly of the hybrid system:

It can be purchased for all trims and will able to be purchased upon hybrid launch. It says date and price in the accessory guide

Pretty cool. You notice in this video with the seats in a normal position there is plenty of room for my dog in the rear seat. Beau approves.

I’ve been waiting for this truck since 2020. Special ordered a TRD Pro manual in 2021 with the exception that I’d get the Gen 4 when it was released. I’m not comfortable paying $20k more in msrp than what I paid 3 years ago. I definitely don’t think the Pro is worth it for what I plan to use it for. Is the off-road worth the price, it’s more than my current Pro?

Good question. I am struggling with the answer.

I paid $37,700 usd for a new 2016 4Runner Trail Premium. $40,997 usd for a new 2021 Tacoma Off-road with leather, moonroof, etc. Bought my honey a new 2024 BMW X5 for a lowly $77,700.

Do I need a new truck? Absolutely not. But do I want a Pro? Yep.

My perspective on price and value got all fucked up after buying the BMW. That and the fact the Tacoma Pro is lower priced than all of the other vehicles I am interested in.

Value wise, I can’t justify it. I’m afraid to go to the lot an look, because I’ll find a way to justify it. I drove S4’s for years before I bought my Pro in ‘21. It was a downgrade in price then, but now it cost more than the S4.

For the price, the Pro should have a true leather interior, an exclusive engine option, and a suspension that can be adjusted from inside the cab.

Food for thought: if people on this forum (who are arguably the hardest of the hard core 'Yota fans) think that the pricing is ridiculous and are unwilling to pay it, what is Joe Knucklehead off the street going to do?

This is how toyota does things. They shy away from models that include too many one off offerings because it means that they have to manufacture those things separately. The reliability (and cost savings for them) comes from the fact that they use repeat parts and materials for hundreds of thousands of vehicles. You can’t have both reliability and too many one off offerings. Also Toyota doesn’t like too many moving parts (adjusting shocks from the inside) because they break! My brother has a raptor. Stuff is malfunctioning all the time after about 85K miles.

As for the price - toyota is trying to reclaim markups back from the dealerships by offering a higher price; the dealerships won’t have any room to mark things up because nobody will even touch these cars at anything higher than the prices that Toyota has currently set. Toyota is not interested in losing market share. If this happens they will lower the price to the dealer so the dealer can offer a discount. I doubt that will happen though. If it takes 2-3 years to get a PRO on a wait list that means the price is too low. Also, don’t kid yourself - this is a luxury vehicle at this point for rich guys and it is what it is. If you want to build your own truck get a lower trim and do your thing (not you specifically but just a general comment).

Also, the “correct” price is the price that someone is willing to pay for something and where the market clears. If the market clears at a high price, then a rational seller will set it at that price to make the maximum profit. There is no obligation to create an artificially low price for anybody; in fact, when they do that, what happens is scarcity and markups from dealers so you’re either paying with time or you’re paying with the markup to a dealer. For all of you guys who got a TRD pro at MSRP congratulations but that is not the norm.

Also, if the ranger raptor is a better deal, then get the Ranger raptor. But at the end of the day, the market decides the price of a vehicle—not Toyota. If the price is too high, it will naturally come down and vice versa. When the price was too low, as I argued earlier, the dealer markups made up for it and the price went back up. That’s just how markets work.

I don’t want to bet. I have no emotional reaction to this. You may be missing my argument. If dealers can add even more mark up (successfully mind you) — then Toyota’s prices are actually too low. The market doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings. It operates freely and lives only in fact.
