So I've run these behind my grill for a while and I am really annoyed by the "chicken foot" pattern they produce. Anyone know how to get a more even light output?

was thinking the same. but ive ran them all on one relay also with my 20" bar and they worked fine. gonna play more with it tonight. trying to keep the mount of wires running around to a minimum

HID's, LED Dash swap, LED reverse lights, 15"x10" 5 slot mags, sliding rear window, 20gal aux. DS fuel tank,
Remember, HIDs need a slightly higher voltage (which pulls more amps) when warming up. Not having a high enough voltage for them will cause them to flicker and/or turn off.

Check your connections and especially your grounds. I would run each set of lights on their own relays, (pods & rock lights on their own, light bar on its own, hids together) instead of all on the same relay. It will allow you to have some sort of auxiliary lighting if one relay failed instead of losing everything but your headlights. Also, it will put less of a strain on the relay and it won't burn out from pulling too many amps through it.

I find my connectors need to be fucked with occasionally if I don't use my HID's in a while.

Anyone know which wire goes on each 3 pins of the hella switch? I know the load is pin 2 but power goes on pin 1 or 3??

If you have a multimeter, check to see which one has continuity with pin 2 when the switch is on. Or you can easily put it on one then test it to see if it's correct.

    700FF is 55w H3

has anyone upgraded to higher watt offroad H3? Osram has 100w

just like you would with a headlight.
    (And thicker wire)

plan is tie into high beam stalk on. so keep halogen but with more power would make more sense than HID.

HIDs turn on slow, do not like being turned on and off repeatedly, and are for long term use.
This is why cars use them for low main. Turn it on once at night for the whole drive.

maybe it’s just a matter of:
    -brighter bulb
-replacing the wiring harness that comes with it, with thicker gauge wire rated to handle higher watts

There's some excellent tests in the last few pages of the SAE J581 driving light thread comparing severalndifferent 55w and 100w bulbs in several lamps, including the 700ff. Also a comparison between the 700 and 700ff, which are pretty close in peak intensity, but have appreciably different beam patterns.

    did some research
Hella 700 comes with around 20ga
    55w
Maybe 18ga something like that. It’s not that thick. My upgraded main headlights harness is much thicker.

    100w recommended is around 12ga
They have HD harness online don’t know what gauge. $40

And that wouldn’t change anything else like connectors…

anyone backlight their aux? Like DD
    for a running amber
could probably be done with drill hole, 360 low power LED for cheap IMG_5305.jpg
