Icon Coilover Lower Bearing Service Kit

^You mean as an assembly lube? I just used cosmoline when I did mine last year. Make sure you wipe off the excess so it doesn't get into the bearing.

 

Yes... as an assembly lube. I sent these shocks back to Icon for factory service, but apparently their new tech working them somehow didn't see the rust on the lower bearing. I contacted them, they sent me the new parts, and now I get to do it myself

Now I'm noticing in the tech info section of the install instructions they're saying to "NOT apply any type of lube to the upper and lower bearings". So maybe just a light sheen of 3 in 1 oil to help it slide in?

^The instructions are for installing into the truck. There should be no oil or grease in the bearing as it's teflon-lined and designed to work "dry". Periodically you can spray teflon lube into the bearing if they squeak.

Before pressing bearing into the shock, you can spray cosmoline or other lubricant into the bore of the fitting. You can also spray cosmoline on the bolt shank before putting the bolt through the LCA.

I'm not familiar with cosmoline... I'll google it and do some research. Would it be comparable to 3 in 1 machine oil?

 

^No. It's a corrosion inhibitor, like Fluid Film but more water-resistant:

For anyone who references this in the future, it turns out the Icon product 614551 comes with a little blister pack of anti-seize. I called them to ask what brand they use/source for their kits, and was told it was just generic. I ended up getting a small tube of Permatex anti-seize from the local auto parts store, and it worked great.

Hi there looking for some help with replacing my lower bearings on my coil overs. I’m new to the 4x4 world so it’s taken me a while to find this post lol. I’ve got the Radflow 2.5” coil overs with stock lower control arms, would this kit fit? I’ve sourced other spacers and bearings I’m just not sure if the spacers are 1.5” or 1.25”. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

 

Unfortunately the heim joint squeak is back on my Tacoma. It sounds like Marcel Ledbetters truck again.
To the folks at ICON, I think there needs to be a better long term solution.

 

I have upgraded bearings for all 2.5 Tacoma/4Runner shocks.

These are the complete kit with spacers in Mild steel, Alloy steel and Stainless steel.

We also have upgraded lower bolts that are shanked and a constant diameter vs the stock bolts.
