Hey wow! Thanks a lot gadget! Hopefully this will put a lot of owners at ease and further promote this short shifter kit. I've received it and installed it since my last post. I used lock tight red, and staked the set screws. I'm confident in my installation and the shifter feels incredible! People complain that it is so difficult to get into reverse... I haven't experienced this. Everything feels very similar, just much shorter and more precise feeling. Great product. Thanks again gadget for this great response about this great product.

On the 1GR 6 speed it is typically harder to get into reverse. Toyota uses a very stiff detent spring to keep you from accidentally going into reverse when you are selecting 1st. With the URD SST the mechanical leverage is reduced so it is harder to over ride that detent spring and get it into reverse.

Here is the trick to make it easy. Put it in neutral and move the lever all the way to the right, then swiftly move it to the left and let the momentum carry it through the detent spring and into reverse.

Sounds legit to me gadget. Y'all make some very solid parts, keep up the good work. I've had nothing but good luck with the URD parts I have installed, and would recommend to anyone.

@Gadget@URD help needed. I'm trying to still my URD short shifter for a 15 Tacoma. Pathetically enough I'm on step one. As I twist the shift knob the knob and the rod that is connected to turns with it. I've been trying to unscrew it for a while but don't seem to be making progress. Does this sound right?

I found some on YouTube. However none for this exact short shifter or Tacoma. But the video I found was helpful and gave me the courage to do this project. I am not the most mechanically inclined person.

I don't like the way 1st goes into 2nd in my 5 speed...so I am not sure if this will help it alleviate the notchy feel going into 2nd gear. You mentioned the stock tip is snapping off, would it make sense to weld the stock lever neck portion of the tip of the shifting lever before it's broken off? This way making the neck portion thicker and stronger?

Also getting into reverse...any issues with the 5 speed and URD short shifter? Does it make any sense to dremel away the rectangular bracket where it would make it easier to go into reverse on the 5 speed?

I have been rolling with the URD ss kit on my 5 spd for 5 yrs now. Bought it for the 05 AC but it never made it on the truck before trading it in for the 08 RC. I'm glad because it makes a big difference in shifting. Throws are much shorter and the notchy shift feel is greatly reduced. Highly recommend this. It doesn't change how it feels trying to get back in 1st from other gears but that is a syncro thing not a shifter thing.

I did the red Loctite thing and the staking thing per instructions and have had 0 issues. It gets a workout in 30 miles of rush hr traffic every day.

New record? Six and a half year bump on a 14 year old thread?

@Dalé_Tha_truth_speaka I had no issues with mine on a ‘21 at temps down to -20°F.

Old threads are a good research tool for new owners. Often want to do the same mods and how-toes and want to see how others dealt with issues.
