Ok some background. Truck bought new and rotors and brakes worked well. At 55,000 mile changed the pad and replaced the rotors with Ray-asbestos rotors. I normally would have the rotors turned but chose to replace them and new pads. 3,000 mile later the new rotors warped. I sent them back, then had my factory rotors turned and re-installed. Now 4,000 miles later it is just like it was, warped again. I do not brake hard, ride the brakes, however I do use the Dynamic Cruise Control and it loves to brake very often with highway traffic.

    So here are my questions:

Can new pads that maybe are cheap damage new or turned Toyota oem rotors?

Is the cruise control that will pace the vehicle in front actually overheat the rotors?

Until I figure this out I have bought a matching set of RC Concepts drilled and slotted rotors and matching pair of ceramic pads. I am hoping buying these will reduce heat and as a set stop the warping.

    Any thoughts?

So what causes pulsation is runout, this can be called warp, but often is just a variance of thickness in the rotor.

Often it's caused by low grade pads imbedding into the rotor after a hot drive, or sitting and rusting.

Or it's heat spots, cracking or material issues with the rotors. Cheaper the rotor, the more likely it gets variation issues. They also tend to rust faster.

Machining rotors with thickness variation usually is a bandaid that doesn't last. The core issue is deep and only the surface is corrected.

I think heat isnt the issue, its product quality this time.

I don’t have any specific help other than to say that I have been driving since the 1980’s and have never replaced a brake rotor. I think you might be unlucky or more sensitive to vibrations/sounds. Out of curiosity, did you get the rotors mic’ed/inspected to be sure they were “warped”?

If the rotor mounting surface is beginning to rust that can effect things, I clean it very well and use anti-sieze. Over or under torque on lugs can contribute.

Have you ever heard of a on car brake lathe?

It is a driver adapter bolted in place of the wheel, and spins the rotors in place on the truck. It cuts them to true to the plane of rotation.
Since we have fixed calipers any runout, or variation in thickness, or uneven pad transfer layer to the rotors is felt much more.

    I hope this helps.

I had a vibration with my OEM brakes so I put PowerStop on. I have 15k miles on them and very happy. I hope your RC Concepts fixes your issue.

I doubt the dynamic cruise is causing heating issues, since you are at speed. That said, if you adjust the sensitivity down, change lanes before it brakes, and don't use it in heavy traffic,,,, your experience with it will be a lot more enjoyable.
Did you reuse the newish pads?

Seems like you might have a mechanical problem... I've used Raybestos rotors and pads a bunch of times and never had that short of life. Same with turned rotors...

    Jack truck up.
Start it up and press brake hard.
    Get out and spin wheel.
If it's not free to spin, then you have a caliper piston that is seizing up. That's my bet.

I never turn rotors. If they are already warped they are probably beyond tolerance. Newer vehicles have next to no allowance. It does sound like to me there is something not right, like a caliper dragging a bit. Rotors going bad that fast is really odd. Also, Raybestos has different quality rotors. I have been told it’s about the quality of the steel. The “better” ones are not much more expensive.

Mine also have the same problem, replaced pads with oem toyota pads at 60,000. Always torqued the lug nuts at 83 ft pounds
I noticed the warped rotors at about 65,000

Another vote for the PowerStop kit. After a normal drive - get out and feel the lug nuts on each wheel. If one is much hotter than others - there is the problem wheel.
