Seems like the normal 10 year cycle that Toyota has been doing for decades now. It’s just now they have the 4Runner on the same cycle and will be trying to put the tundra on that cycle too

I’m cool with the delays as I am waiting to take delivery of my BEV Tesla pickup in 2022. I would purchase a BEV Tacoma if it was available but that will be YEARS away since Toyota is waiting on solid state batteries to be perfected.

Im not a huge fan of the4runner interior even though I love the truck. its like really really REALLLY outdated. seems wierd to be spending 40k for an interior thats 15years ish old.

I have a honda pilot and the interior is like a spaceship.

its strange because the tacomas interior is kinda dated as well but I like it and it seems alright. The 4runners I cant stand it.

Op is failing to realize Automakers industry-wide are at a definitive cross-roads where committing to further 10years of 'conventional-gas' motor platform vehicles is corporate suicide. Its 20 year old thinking at this point. My personal beliefs about the E-platform aside, it is beyond obvious the public will DEMAND electric vehicles, essentially now. It is utterly infeasible for automakers to convert to electric, while simultaneously properly developing their gas-motor lines.

The Future of automotive corporations has a categorically different face than the 20 model line up OP describes. It will be more like 5 or 6 definitive pieces, 1 for each 'segment'.

Take the "Rivian" truck for example (the one that does the 'tank-turn')
    -~750hp
    -11,000lbs tow
    - 0-60mph ~3.0 seconds
-400mile range single charge (REALITY maybe half that real-world, in cold weather climate, after a few years ownership)
    - $69,000

With the "Tesla cyber truck" being essentially the same.

When trucks take this form, it no longer makes sense to offer MULTIPLE models. zero. you dont need a "tundra" AND a "Tacoma" at that point.
The auto-industry and truck manufacturers in general have demonstrated a HUGE market presence of buyers who will pay between $40k-$70k for "high-performance, factory equipped" trucks.

In the world of 'reddit' and 'facebook arguments' and stat-sheets being the end-all-be-all, it will be IMPOSSIBLE to market AGAINST the kind of numbers the Rivian truck or Cyber truck put down on paper.
"Normie" world will never be convinced about the god-like glory and experience of a 6-speed manual NA/gas truck. that feeling, the un-diluted satisfaction you feel in your soul when 3 slots into 4 in a perfect "shift". If you know, you know, and if you DONT, youre the target audience for a Rivian or Cybertruck.

In a world where "my wife" makes all the decisions, especially the ones traditionally left to men: (the truck/cars, home stuff etc..) there will be little other alternative:
    If wifey read the
"the Rivian/cyber truck is the only truck you should ever buy and heres why thats a good thing"
article on her feed, these men would be powerless to refute "rivian truck stats" against a conventional model truck.

Long story short, youre in the last-gen. Cherish it. my heart already bleeds for the clutch pedal.

I’m OP and I get what you’re saying and just an FYI I didn’t say or write any of this but sourced from a industry source on another forum who has also commented here before. Just something for all those who have been wondering about a 4th gen soon to chew on.

There is actually a few posts by a guy, can't remember his name, who is an obvious Toyota insider and has posted, with great detail (no opinion) the facts about the next several years of Toyota truck development. He even uses the internal codes.

Good engineers are really hard to find anymore, most of the old and wise have hung it up and they're the ones who are best able to translate what goes on in the office to the assembly line - companies stretching the good ones too thin and ram rodding new models into production to satisfy the consumer's taste for the latest and greatest are why so much of the machinery market is flooded with junk

If Toyota has to delay things to keep focus on their reputation for quality and longevity that's the lesser of 2 evils.....but I still plan on making my '19 last forever!

That was a lot to read OP. Imo, a long generation cycle is good for everyone, it keeps resale up and ensures longer dependability. If they came out with a new model every 5 years as some of you like to fantasise about, our resale values would tank. Keeping a regen every ten years helps extend longer life of our trucks by way of late model use. Again just my opinion but slow innovation is good innovation.
