I have a 2022 TRD Sport and the tailgate lock stopped operating just recently. I removed the tailgate deck and checked the wiring at the actuator and all looked good. I unplugged the actuator and applied 12v momentarily to the circuit and the actuator functioned. Then checked the connection at the harness under the vehicle that goes to the tailgate and all seemed fine. Is there a way to check for momentary voltage when the lock remote is pressed as I did detect a slight jump on the multi tester. All interior locks are operating fine. HELP!!!

Take it back to the dealer, let them fix it on their dime.

Have you checked the lock settings on the head unit? Perhaps you unknowingly disabled autolock.

    Oh look, another mod....
Why did you do this? If the dealership finds evidence of this, you will have possibly voided the warranty. Let the dealership handle this. It's under warranty......for now.

Thanks for replies. Settings have not changed and did a default reset for good measure and no luck. Back to the dealer!

    Appreciate all the help

Assuming you checked the fuse in the tailgate lock wiring harness?

i've been having trouble with my tailgate lock recently, but its with the key. i put the key in and it won't turn either way. i need to press on the tailgate a little just above the keyhole and then i can lock, unlock it. its like the sides aren't lining up just right.

does your tailgate still have the keyhole you can try locking/unlocking that way?

Rule of thumb, if you’re under warranty, let the dealer fix it

These come with tailgate locks now? Would warranty cover an OEM part if it was installed afterward?

It was factory installed. I was just trying for a quick fix and trying not to go to the dealer.

Had the same issue with my 2022 Tacoma short bed.
Came with the gate remote lock from factory.
It stopped working suddenly. I investigated and found that one of the 5A fuses went out on me. But the problem originated at the actuator because the solenoid was weak and wouldn’t have enough strength to do both functions (lock or unlock). It would do it the first time and would not do it backwards again(when I plug and unplugged the unit, if I locked it, it wouldn’t unlock and viceversa).
So I bought an actuator online and replaced it myself because there is no way I’m going to the dealer to waste my time with their incompetent mechanics. I know, not all of them are bad but too many are and I’m not taking my chances.
I rather fixed my cars myself knowing what I did (good or bad).

Where is that 5A fuse located?

The fuse should be inside the side panel left of the brake pedal. You’ll have to take the door running board plastic off, then the side panel that is in front of the emergency brake in order to access the cables and inline fuses.
There should be two fuses. if your actuator is not doing anything, it is more than likely that the fuse is blown.
If that’s your case you might want to buy the actuator also. I bought it on eBay(way cheaper than the dealer).

They do not come with a fob locking tailgate from the factory. There is a PORT INSTALLED option for the locking tailgate. It’s installed before delivery.
