Just Installed: New Powerstop Brakes and HEL Performance Brake Lines

    Just replaced the front brakes and the full set of new brake lines I will start selling soon from HEL Performance. Really blown away with the Powerstop brake upgrade. It was incredibly easy to install the new rotors and pads and they make towing so much more predictable and comfortable.

    The gold lines though are part of some upgrade kits I am putting together for Tacomas from HEL Performance who supplies all my Classic Mini Cooper lines on my store(store.classicminidiy.com). They will come in a huge array of colors I just picked gold because it looks awesome.

    I am going to offer 3 different versions for the 3rd Gen Tacoma in the next couple weeks:
    • OEM length(covers 2-3in lifts usually)
    • Extended (up to 4in lift)
    • Super Extended(over 4in lift)
    Will anyone here be interested in some brake line replacement kits?

    I'm interested. I'll probably be doing brakes by the end of the year, and I have no idea where to begin. I need something that can handle the added weight of my gear but won't break the bank. I'm stuck between going OEM or going with another brand, but I don't know where to start. Would this also include drums in the rear?

    Powerstop are my goto brakes. Doing all 4 brake lines will firm up the pedal feel too.

    I have about 10K miles on my PowerStop rotors and pads. I had a braking vibration on my OEM front brakes. Very happy I went with PowerStop.

    Good chance I’d be interested. I did a 6112/5160 upgrade recently and have been thinking of extending the rear lines.

    Absolutely! I wouldn't sell anything that didn't meet established safety guidelines regs. This is one of the many reasons why I love HEL.

    How much work is it to swap these out? Enough that it’s best to change the brake oil at the same time?

    eta, for no hardcore off-roading, would the OEM length work sufficiently? Quote a few posts above indicates 2-3” covered. I wonder if I should just jump to the <4” version with my 2.5” lift.

    Since you are disconnecting the lines, you will be opening the brake system and allowing fluid loss. So a brake bleed will be required. Its not a short job but its also not a hard job. Just will require some time to swap the lines, then fill the system back up with fluid. It is a perfect time to flush the brake fluid if yours is older. The OEM length should be suitable for a 2.5in lift.

    Looks awesome! The lines are 3/4 of the pedal feel imo, braided ones are fantastic. You might have sold me on the gold!

    On a sidenote, does anybody have suggestions for a good slotted (not drilled) rotor to pair with the z36 pads?

    Totally agree regarding the pedal feeling. The change wasnt dramatic but it is improved. Regarding the rotors, any reason the standard Z36 rotors wouldn't work for you?

    The OEM length I sell is identical to the stock length. No change

    2) Is there a bundle option for front and rear?
    The price on my site is for the bundle. I don't sell just front or just rear at this time. You will see in the listing, 4 lines. The short ones are the font lines and the longer are for the rear.

    Got it. Reading must not have been my strong point at that moment! lol.

    I’m in, just need to pick a color now.

    <back to ask>. What color option would be best for a straight stainless look? Clear? I have an inferno, and doubt red or orange would match up well, so it’s either stainless, carbon, or black. I don’t see a straight stainless option.

    I would like to upgrade my brakes but I am a little confused. What is for sale as a bundle: brake lines only or lines, rotors and calipers (which is what I want for my truck)?

    I only see the brake lines on the website.

    After 20+ years, Toyota OEM pads still are the best pads on Toyota's.
