Hi all. I heard somewhere that I shouldn’t use iridium plugs in my 2011 4.0 Tacoma. Wondering if this is true or false? Somewhere I heard they get too hot? I dunno. Let’s hear what y’all got to say. Thx.

There are plenty of threads on this subject with 2 camps of yes or no. I have personally been using iridiums since I bought my truck new. 140k miles and not a single hiccup. Others will have different experiences. Buy the correct heat range plugs and you won't have any problems.

I'm of the belief that you should use the plugs that the engine was designed for. They calibrated the system to be using specific components

The same shit everyone else has.
    NGK or Denso coppers.

They’re cheap enough to do every 30k miles.

    Coppers.

Going 60k with them is fine. Both times I've done mine at 60k the plugs looked new when they came out. Could have easily gone longer.

If you want to pay 2-3x for iridium or whatever kind of "special" plug, go ahead.

Standard replacement NGK & Denso Copper plugs have gotten me to almost 300k. I change them when I think about it, maybe every 75-100k lol.

I've run ngk or denso iridium plugs in my 2 tacomas, 1 camry, 1 civic. I go with 100K intervals and have never had any issues, if I had a supercharger I would probably buy copper plugs and change them every 30K-50K.
As for the price difference of iridium costing more then copper, yes they do but if I use one set of iridium plugs for 100K at $10 each thats still cheaper then 3 sets of copper plugs for 30K at $5 each, also its one third of my time I need to spend replacing plugs. I have never understood the idea of the more time I spend working on my cars the better, I'm a auto tech so I already work on cars 8 hours a day and don't want to do extra needless work on my personal vehicles.

Some have had misfire issues running iridium. Not worth the headache. Run what Toyota says is best.

The "stock" denso platinums went 200k in my 4.0.
Edit, apparently someone put Denso platinum in my truck at some point before I got it, but they were working fine.
I'd use NGK G-power platinum or Iridium. Why run copper and have to replace them in 30k? This isn't like a 15min spark plug swap job

In my Tacoma, I used NGK 6619 Iridium 6 years ago, been fine ever since.
I have run NGK G-power platinums for years in dozens of cars and never had an issue. $2.80/plug on rockauto, last 100k, Actually $4.12 for Taco, just bought G-power platinums for my Sequoia for $2.67/plug

Seriously, If your statement is "3 times more expensive" for Iridium plugs, you're stupid. $50 for 6 plugs? That's less than a single tank of fuel, what about your time?

The plugs I just took out could almost pass as new after 60k. Now I see why some people go 100k on the stock plugs without issue.
