    Hi,
I cannot seem to find a forum in here about this topic. Seen some random threads here there. I know there is a hunting forum, but it seems like people mostly showing off their arsenal. it would be great to chat up a little more local

Anyway, taking the taco out east in a couple weeks to go pheasant hunting (first time hunting anything).

Since we all love our trucks (most of us in here) it would be great to chat up with guys about trucks and hunting since I'm a new taco owner and a new hunter.

Skunked this year, warm temperatures and three nights of full or almost full moon. Elk were active at night and not during the day in our area

Went out for elk on 2nd and 4th rifle, no luck either time. Saw plenty of mule deer but did not have a tag. I've heard the same that this year was pretty slow in most areas. I guess it is time to give the ducks and small game a try.

Went out for 3rd. Saw a lot of elk, but they were all too smart and knew exactly where the National Park land started. Came super close to getting a big bull That was on public, but he crossed onto national park land right when I got a clean shot.
What rifle are you using? I had a shot on the elk I mentioned above, but it was at around 620 yards. Since I had a 308 it was outside my comfort zone. Going to build up a 300wm for next year so if I’m in that position again I can take the shot.

Tikka T3X Lite, I've been to a couple of ranges who offer long range and I have reached out to 800 yards with it no problem, would have moved up to a 1000 but it was getting late and still had a 2 hour drive home.

Awesome. That’s the rifle I was planning on getting. Just have to decide on an optic now. My 308 is a tack driver out to about 600. It just loses too much velocity after about 400 to reliably kill an elk.

    Great gun, good weight balance.

I’m a fan of Vortex, have several of their optics. On my 300wm I have a Viper HSLR 6-34x50

Anyone hunt the whitetail OTC that just opened? I’ve been skunked so far this year so I bought the tag hoping to get lucky even while knowing there aren’t a lot of whitetails in the open areas. Today started with a big bodied 10pt mulie with three does and ended with another decent one with one busted off main beam and another doe. I hunted the river bottom that looked like great whitetail territory with tons of sign, tracks and trails but no whitetails.

I was in your hood with an OTC elk. Saw some cows and lots of moo cows, likely just missed a bull in the area I was in, saw some dudes come out near where I was the day prior with one on their side-by-side. They were definitely in the dark, thick timber spots.

    My neighborhood haha

I'm afraid I have to disappoint..... Never saw any of the bastards. Tried late evening, early morning, even night with a nightscope.
They called me last night to say the buggers were howling and yipping nearby at ~7:30pm. Went out there and still nothing.

Anyone done any drone hunting? sounds like the north east corner of the state has a problem with them. Goose load.
