I placed it above the air duct tubing just left of the stereo. It fits snuggly and only has plastic surrounding that part if the dash so hopefully minimal interference.

Thanks! Mine is getting delivered tomorrow so hope to have it installed by end of the day. Very much interested to see if my anytime backup/front camera harness works with the unit still. I'm assuming it will since it interacts with the stock Entune system.

I installed mine and eliminated the SiriusXM module but I need to put it back in. For those that kept it, did you mount the SiriusXM underneath everything or in the middle?

Sorry to not answer your question but why the need to reinstall it?

In the first post, I think the OP mentioned that it goes underneath the CarPlay module. Also, a quick email to honk@carsynctech.com should result in a quick reply.

I often take trips to the middle of nowhere. SiriusXM is my link to the outside world.

I left the XM module where it was and installed the CarSync module on the bottom. I did modify my front metal plate to keep the ribbon cable from getting pinched. However, I felt that even if I had the XM module on the bottom the ribbon cable was subjected to getting damaged by the front plate. So installing on the bottom under the XM module seemed like the best fit. The ribbon cable just barely fits length wise but everything came together just fine.

Just installed in my 2017 TRD Pro with Car Solutions camera switch harness/module. Works great!!!! So happy to have wireless CarPlay working with this cool camera system and utilizing the stock deck. Video below of how it works with my camera system. I did remove the XM module as I never use it and never will. https://youtu.be/mCRMtHbHddU?feature=shared

BUT wondering if anyone who has computer experience can do some experimenting...? As a hacker when I saw this:

    Decoder specifications:
    • Linux Architecture
    • Wifi 5GHz & 2.4GHz
    • Bluetooth 5.0
    • USB interface (up to 32 GB)
I immediately wondered how *secure* the device is. Default account/password anyone? I'd love someone to do an nMap scan (wifi == IP address) and see what it shows, which ports are open, what Linux distribution they use, etc...perhaps there is extra space to use for other purposes? Wireshark is available for Android so there's that...

Anyway, if someone is feeling adventurous that would be a fun post to read.

What app do you use to screen mirror? Anybody know?

It’s currently not available. I think the process is to disconnect Bluetooth then connect to the wifi that the screen mirroring option shows and then I believe you can screen share? However, the latest iOS broke this functionality and the vendor is working on it.

So kinda strange… when connected through airplay, my iPhone shows that it’s not connected to Bluetooth or WiFi. CarPlay uses some other protocol to allow wireless CarPlay to work. This is all on the iPhone side. Not sure how the Android side works. Might make it difficult to monitor network traffic if you don’t have direct access to the protocols being used. I’m assuming Apple does this for security reasons.

Install went pretty straight forward (hardest part was probably removing the head unit from the truck due to my Expedition Essentials mount). Instructions are very easy to follow; there’s even a QR code for a YouTube tutorial if needed. I did remove the XM radio module since I’ve never used it.

As mentioned before, CarPlay takes a few seconds to boot up. Otherwise, it has been running great with no hiccups. The screen quality far exceeded my expectations.

Down and left towards the drivers footwell area. It was a pain to get it there though. Might be easier taping it to a wire hanger and fishing it through that way…I was just lazy haha

Just curious. Thanks for sharing. I posted the picture above of using a flush mount usb socket in one of my blanks. Super easy to get to but only an option if you have a blank available.

My buddy has a 2019 SR5. Post a pic of your head unit. From my understanding (my buddy has the Entune plus head unit and confirmed with the vendor), this unit works on all Headunits from 2014-2019.

Right on, appreciate it. If I had a spare slot I would have def gone that route.
