Does anyone have any ideas why my 2016 entune stereo keeps rebooting?
I took it to the dealer and they confirmed it had the latest software downloaded.
Since my warranty expired , I opted not to let them look at it.

for some reason it keeps rebooting at the same exact spot on my morning drive to work.
what can cause it to reboot at the same place/time every day?

All I can think of is some sort of radio signal.
what frequency does the Entune receive its updates?

It has started to reboot on a more frequent basis.
sometimes 3 or 4 times a day on my drive to work.

When mine was doing it it had to do with Entune trying to get contacts from my iPhone. Unlinked phone, reset Entune, relinked phone, making sure to say no to accessing contacts.
Never had the problem occur again.

I would take it out and unplug everything . Reconnect then . Go to settings set to default settings to start from scratch . Best of luck .

I had a very very similar issue... it was the SD map card was failing.

To confirm, take the cover off the map card on the lower RH corner of the stereo, press on the card so it pops out (don't have to take it completely out if you don't want to or are afraid of loosing it) maps won't work while it out obviously, but if that's the problem your stereo won't reboot on your drive to work.

If that's the case just need to get a new map card, cheaper on ebay and Amazon then at the dealer.

Finally after 2 years trying to find whats the root cause was I finally found it like a week. The solution is 5 dollar cost or less.

root cause: there are 2 fuses in the engine compartment and those fuses sits on the conector but it seems like the connector becomes loose and starts to create a short randombly.

Solution: twist or bend a bit the fuse tips to make more space so the d4m male area where it fits makes a good connection.

any more details or pictures send email flor.de.elote@hotmail.com

Can you be specific on where these fuses are? Maybe a pic would help. Thank you, Sabastian.

In the fuse compartment there are “dome” and “Radio No 1.” Fuses, mine is 2015 long bed.

just take them off, twist the legs and put them back, you will see that it would be harder to assembly them which is a good signal.

2 years having dificulties and now 6 month after that correction without any issue.

replacing head unit won’t solve anything since it’s a short circuit.

Not a short circuit, an intermittent circuit?

Yep, probably the location of the fuses could change depending of the year but you can figure out just by pressing with the finger tip while the truck is on and radio playing… the stereo will shut off and on… that is how I make a final diagnose after a year struggling.

let me know if that worked.

there were other forums in where the entire unit were replaced but showed the same issue.

Had the same issue, found a similar post that said to tighten the battery connections, and that worked for me.

Unfortunately the fuse solution did not work for me.
I did run an update and that didn’t work either. The system wouldn’t even stay on long enough for it to run the update completely. I then disconnected the phone Bluetooth and ‘voila’ it completed the update. I tested it again after the update with the Bluetooth back on, it would go back to rebooting itself.

I then left the phone Bluetooth on but I toggle off contact sync and that seemed to have resolved my issue. No more rebooting. Btw, it was still worth while to update the system.

My Nissan used to do this. Sometimes when it shut down it wouldn't come back on without stopping the vehicle, turning it off, waiting a few minutes before starting the car and trying to turn it on... and that didn't always work. Imagine being 1000 miles from home with no GPS, no radio, no bluetooth for your phone, etc. After a while I learned what would make it reboot and/or freak out and could do it at will. After complaining to Nissan over and over and them keep telling me they were not aware of any problems (did I mention I filmed it doing it and put it on their FB page?) I went to the Chicago auto show and made their vehicles on the floor do it. All of them. I made a bunch of enemies that day but I got the phone number for the Midwest tech manager and it prompted them to finally fix it via firmware updates.

If your radio is rebooting like mine was, it could be an out of memory issue. My 2023 Tacoma "premium" radio doesn't reboot but I can get it to freak out constantly. When I try to listen to music via thumbdrive my only option is to play all music on shuffle. If I try to listen by folder, artist, album, etc. it hiccups and plays the first song in the first folder every time.

Did I mention the Toyota radio is garbage? It is. Whoever develops the software/firmware for them is unqualified for his job.

    very few/small mods
    4/26/2024.
Old thread I know, but my 2017 Tacoma Off-Road in the last couple of months has been getting pretty bad with the reboots.
A couple of days ago, the radio rebooted ~6 times in an hour, then stayed ok for the next 4 hours.
Some days I'd drive an hour with no reboots at all. Other days, something in between.
I did try replacing the fuse controlling the radio as the 1st thing with no changes.
I read about folks who messed with disconnecting their iPhones from the radio/infotainment and it may have worked for them.
I tried it once and it didn't do anything different and didn't even reconnect the iPhone via Bluetooth, then I tried again a couple of days ago.
It seemed to work this time with a few other details to add.

Note, I'm using an iPhone13 with the latest IOS.
I'm also using a dash-mount Garmin GPS which also connects to my iPhone via Bluetooth and the Garmin can connect to the Tacoma via Bluetooth too.

This time, I disconnected Bluetooth, again, my iPhone from the radio (or deleted it, I think the menu said).
I then also deleted several Bluetooth addresses within my iPhone. I believe it's called something like "forget this device".
I had several Garmin GPS devices lists as I own three Garmins and will reconnect to them later when I get around to using them again. Garmin also has an app called "Drive" which I kept in my phone's menu along with some other Bluetooth devices, like headphones, which I know I often use.
I reconnected my iPhone to the Tacoma. It took a few tries as the "Toyota Tacoma" didn't immediately show up during the first few tries.
Finally, I did see "Toyota Tacoma" and I connected the phone. I was driving during this reconnection phase and don't know to what extent this complicated matters.
I believe I had also disconnected the Garmin's Bluetooth from the Tacoma too.
While all this is going on, I actually got an app update to my Garmin "Drive" app, and updated that app too.

I also often had been using a USB-to-iPhone cable while driving to get a better iPhone-music menu on the Tacoma's radio screen but probably disconnected that cable during the Bluetooth reconnection tries.

For the last couple of days, my Tacoma's radio has not rebooted. I don't know how to get text messaging to show up on the Tacoma's screen anymore but right that will have to be a later project for me. The Tacoma shows a message something like, "operate your phone before messaging can be activated". I don't know what that means. Perhaps I need to send a message using my iPhone and maybe the Tacoma's screen will connect, but I really don't know how it all connects and relates.

Wish me luck as I'm wishing myself luck every time I use my truck (which is daily).

    Update 4/30/2024 Tuesday
Yesterday, I tried turning on text messaging on the Tacoma head unit.
The unit started to reboot again.
Messaging has some options too, which includes some type of contact and prior messaging downloads. I had those options also turned on and didn't try every option as to On/Off. I just deleted my phone from connected phones and reconnected the phone again.
I also noticed my stand-alone Garmin also suggests turning the head-unit's bluetooth "off", but I didn't see turning-off just the head-unit's bluetooth function as an option. Somehow, that Garmin unit will know if my iPhone is connected to the head-unit even if the iPhone is connected via USB cable.
I suppose I really don't need to receiving and sending quick messages while I drive anyway.
Note, the Tacoma needs to be stopped to get to the menu which allows disconnecting a presently connected phone.

I'm planning to get either a '24 GX550 OverTrail Lexus or a '25 4Runner TRD Pro and will be interested to see how my iPhone will interact with one of those infotainment systems in the near future if getting a new vehicle gets done.
