Installed some new fogs and a light bar in the bumper behind the grille and had to remove the grille to do it. Unhooked the safety sensor and moved the truck in and out of the garage for several days. I got a call from my dealership that I received a warning that the pre-collision warning was off and do I need to come in and have them look at it.

I guess my question is, is this normal to have the dealership monitoring my vehicle through I think the app on my phone? Feels a little like big brother keeping an eye on you. Has this happened to others? TIA.

theyre not monitoring you per say. The truck sends back signals to see hows the truck is doing. Its mostly for them to sell your info to insurance companies

Don't let them kid you, they are gathering as much information on everyone as they possibly can.

Yes, in 300 million US citizens Toyota is stalking you, me and regular people like us. They must care so much about our personal lives.

You got warning because car is probably under warranty still, and also you prob got safety connect in package. Its free until it runs out. This is same way as recalls, you get notification whenever your truck VIN has recall open.

Sounds more like they're keeping track of your truck, not you as an individual.

What exactly is your concern? Would you rather something go wrong and they not monitor/notify you and risk it going unnoticed?

My dealer called me when I hit 5002 miles... "Your truck says it needs service. Would you like to make an appointment?" (paraphrased but essentially the same...)

it's almost like that's why for 20+ years brands would normally mail you a letter if there is a recall, based on owner registered to the vehicle

idk if you're against this scenario or for it lol

recall is basically the same thing. I see this as more efficient, as it's individually targeted, and likely handled quicker than using snailmail that could get lost or go to a previous owner.

I don't really see how this is a security/privacy risk unless there's a bunch of private personal info in the app that your contract wouldn't have already had?

Alarm companies do the same thing if you don't disarm it within a certain time, but eventually do.

your info is tracked, sold, and used for purposes that may not be in your interest
    and compromised
at least OP's appears to be. My truck is old.
They are not paying for that info.

A recall is not the same. This is not more efficient. Recalls are few and far between. And can be checked by calling the dealer.

Wouldn't know. Don't have an alarm. You can make your own. Statistically they're supposedly worse than good.

If people want tracking they can check the box.

they know what TSBs may apply to your vehicle. Do they let you know or share that? No. Upsell warranty is not allowed.

BMW does this to spam people with sales attempts and warnings not because it’s triggered and needs it but because they programmed it to go off at a certain time regardless of actual condition, to attempt sales whether it needs it or not.

OP you should unplug something 47 times see how many calls you can get them to do.

They're tracking everything regarding your driving habits that way they can decide which FEMA camp you will get distributed to when the NWO takes full control.

next time you buy a vehicle , opt out like i did for data sharing. That way you can keep the tin foil hat in the closet lol. They should have disclosed this when buying your truck , if they didnt next time ask.Since toyota financial is the lien holder ,theyre technically the owners so they will "monitor"

same thing happened to me. When they called me, I told him that I was putting in fog lights and waiting for the next night to ensure had them aimed properly.

They told me if I needed anything too. Feel free to call.
