Mileage isn't an issue. With vehicles appear to be in great shape. Price is the biggest difference. About half the price for the 04.

I'm looking to have a pick up to drove for a few years until my 12 year old twin boys can drive then to give to them.

Is it worth the cost to be in a 14 vs the 04?

I’ll go with the 14 no doubt

By then, one will be 25 years old and the other will be 15 years old. The 25 year-old truck will likely need more money thrown at it to replace rotted and worn out parts, and parts availability will be more problematic.

The 14 will also be significantly safer.

I have a 13 now with 195K and would only sell it to buy a low mileage 15!

04 if it’ll be a country, farm, or otherwise beaten up go kart of a truck.

14 if you’ll be in town, on the highway especially, or otherwise road oriented truck.

I don’t fit very well in the first gens, so the 2014

In 4 more years, when your kids can drive, the 2014 would be the better choice.
4 Years from now, the 2004 will be a 24 year old truck. Do you want to do the maintenance that SHOULD be done on a 24 year old truck.
Especially when you are going to have your children driving it?

The 2014 also has the add safety features too.

If you can afford it, buy the 2014.
