Rubberized undercoating has been the death of many vehicles. If it was a good idea, they'd put it on a the factory. There's a reason it's only offered and warrantied by a third party vendor. It's only purpose is to give the dealer a chance to suck another $500 out of you on the day they "deliver your baby" and you're all in love with your new truck and willing to pay anything to keep it fresh. It should be avoided at all costs.

    Do this:
    -Wash your undercarriage often
-touch up rust spots annually with a wire brush and paint
-apply a light surface coating of a wax, oil, or lanolin-based spray (choose your poison)

I have a different opinion about Zeibart undercoating. Like the OP, I live in DC and had my truck undercoated at the same Fairfax County location the OP described. Price was the same. My truck had 120 miles on it when completed on a hot and very dry day.

Every vehicle I've owned was Zeibart treated when purchased new. In fact, thinking back, I've never owned a vehicle that wasn't under coated. I've never had any problem with rust ever or any of the other problems reported. Zeibart treating an older vehicle is obviously a bad idea, it will contain any rust present. My last vehicle which I purchased new (and just retired) had 235,000 miles on it, no rust anywhere.

Key to undercoating is maintaining it. Each year I've taken it back for touch-up and reapplication of the interior panel sealant described. It runs about $50 or less.

I thought the Fairfax Zeibart location did a good job with the application. Not perfect, but good. There was some slight overspray in a few undercarriage areas, but not enough to be a problem. I've had under coatings applied at other shops that were perfect, so I know the difference.

My opinion, for what it's worth.
