Wanted to share a little experience with you all....

I bought 4 new yokohama ice guard ig51v and 4 new steel rims from Costco online.
The tires came from an online retailer which I purchased from in the past.

Installed 4 tpms sensors ,as these are my winter tires on different rims.

Well, the truck drove like crap because of a terrible shimmy.

Had the tires rebalanced, and reintalled at the same corners,...still shimmying.

Swapped front left with rear left tire, and got better.
Swapped the front right with the rear right...shimmy GONE.

So it appears that the front right tire was at cause.
While on the balancer, the tire didn't hop out of round, or run crooked.

But just food for thought if you have one of these situations.

I had a set of Yokohama high speed (VR rated!) snow tires on the back of my old BMW when I lived in the Sierra, they did the same shimmy thing all the time when I pushed them, otherwise they were great and I never had to chain up with them ever, even when the snow was so deep it was packing around my undercarriage. I also used them to race my friend’s 4wd Toyota pickup back to town from the ski area on snowy roads after work...yeah, I was a dumb “I will live forever” 20-something back then, but those tires were really that good.

I’ve not had a problem with balancing Yokahamas.

They were the greatest tires in the universe... until they hit 35k miles and blew through tread.

I have a pair of Firestone Destinations going on 65k miles and I’m willing to bet money I can get them to 75k+.

Yokahamas are great tires, they just don’t last. And I guess if you are one of those that takes 5 years to put on 35k miles thats find because you need to swap tires at that point regardless of tread depth but I cannot be buying tires every 18 months.
