I'm looking to get a roof rack to carry my conoe. I currently have a naked roof. I was told that I don't want a rack that mounts directly to my roof but to get a factory rack that has the side rails, and then get a roof rack that mounts to that.
I have been shopping around for factory racks and the only ones I can find are the ones that have crossbars that fold out or fold in when not using them. My question is does anyone have any experience mounting the Yakima Timberline towers to this style of factory rack? Thanks.

For what you're going to end up spending on a factory rack plus the Yakima addition you could go with something like the Prinsu or add Rhino rack tracks and rack or a Yakima or Thule rack of your choice (plus it's easier to take off when you don't want it there). Just an idea since I haven't done the rack on a rack approach.

These arent the towers, but a pair of Yakima ski racks bolted to Yakima Quick Fists, which are clamped to my OEM roof rack. Maybe you could skip the towers and somehow connect whatever you are using to hold the canoe, to the quick fists?

Ordered roof racks from ebay and went to install yesterday. Looks like the bolt holes on my truck are off. Has anyone had this problem? My mounts racks will either line up in the back or the middle but never all.

    I can post pictures tomorrow.

Yeah I’m pretty set on the Yakima products because I work at a Yakima dealer so the price is good. Thanks for the addictive though.

You can use the Yakima landing pads (and some of their other track mounted accessories) with the Rhino Rack track- the Rhino Rack product is just designed to match the curves/shape of the rain gutter/ditch/whatever Toyota calls the depressed area in the roof better than the generic Yakima track. One of the members here posted this thread about them:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ditch-mounted-tracks-on-double-cabs.418816/
There are people on here who have mounted the Yakima tracks if you wanted to go that route instead of buying the OEM rack (no links handy, you'll have to do a search).

It's a Softopper. Yes, it comes on and off in 5 minutes by yourself. The sides rolled up too

This is with it folded forward and the cover installed.

Baseline towers, round bars , and a fairing
They are the newer ones the old style had a very low load rating, these are really sturdy.

Both went on really easily the system is very secure.

im interested in doing this as i already have bars, and a fairing. Do i need anything aside from the baseline towers? Do these bolt right to the roof’s existing holes where factory racks would mount?

You are responding to a 2yo old thread but the answer to your question is no, the yakima system does not mount to the existing factory holes under the weatherstripping. It uses the Q-clips with the towers to clip onto the cab. You can see the clips in the pics above the door. You just have to order the clips for a Tacoma.
