I never understood why Yakima went away from the traditional round bars? Back in the day, they claimed the round design was superior for strength. I know it DID offer more versatility for different shapes of roofs! There’s an adapter you can purchase for those(like me) who still prefer the original round bars and have many accessories that fit ONLY that shape bars. It’s the SL round bar adapter, but you still have to buy their new towers(they don’t make q-clips anymore for newer vehicles).

Does anyone know what size Q-CLIPS would possibly fit a 3rd gen? I have an access cab, but I also have the Yakima stretch kit which I’ve used for 2-door coupes I’ve owned in the past? Sorry for the thread-jack!

I think I'm going to go with round bars myself. I think they look better too.

Go to the Yakima site and "build my rack" or whatever it is called - put your specific vehicle in (year/access cab) and roof top system with round bars. Should tell you which clips for the front and which for the rear. Sorry, but I can't remember which I had.

Thanks! After doing some more reading I think I’m going to go with a set of Landing Pads(#24), Skyline Towers(or Control Towers if I can find them used), and Round Bar Adapters(my local REI had a couple used sets last time I was in there). I used the Qclips with all my past vehicles, but I spent TOO MUCH on this new truck to risk scratching the paint! The Landing Pads are supposed to go directly into the groove and bolt-in to the factory rail spots on the 3rd Gen. I have an SR so I’m hoping that’s the case anyways!

If this all comes together I will have ended up spending more money, but saving even more in the Round Bar accessories I already have.

It looks like there's several good options by Yakima/Rhino. I think I'm going to go with the Tacoma baseline towers with round crossbars. I like the baseline because you also can put them wherever you want, but they be sit on top of the track instead of in it.
