    Help!
How do I modify the base and mounting hook of my existing Yakima Outdoorsman racks to work with my 2018 Tacoma? I know that I'll have to notch the base of my towers to dovetail the latch pins for the tonneau cover. I'll also need to engineer some kind of solid connection between the rack's hooks and the cargo tracks in the bed. Welding not a problem with my neighbor a certified pro.
Thanks for ideas and especially pictures of what you've done or have seen. Will be using the racks for kayaks over the bed and cab come warmer weather. Kodthree out shoveling,

Neighbor is a welder? Sell the Yakima and have him fabricate you an over-tonneau rack.

Look at the mounting hardware for truck caps... Mine has an insert that goes into the track that is threaded. I think you could just run the bolt through the rack mount and into the track mount.

    This is feasible.
What do you think about having him just fab me some under tonneau mounting plates that bolt to the tracks and then rework the yakima tower bases to integrate with those plates?

As most have caught on even though I didn't mention it... I'd like to retain the tonneau fully functional.

You’re gonna need to get really creative to have solid brackets for a rack that allows the tonneau to flip up.

I gave up looking and just had some bars fabbed. When I needed to use the bars, I’d just remove the tonneau.

But if you look carefully, this might give you and idea or two.

I think if you want to keep the tonneau functional with the racks then you are either modifying the rack with some custom fabricated mounts or having an upholstery/canvas shop modify the tonneau. The last chance is they make ladder rack mounts that extend outside the topper and makes the rack look like an exoskeleton. To me they look cheesy as hell. what about one of the inside bed decks with drawers underneath? I had the same issues you are having with my tundra. I ended up buying a diamondback aluminum tonneau and mounting the rack to the lids with brackets so I can take it on and off easily. I then bought a yakima bar and two clamps that attach it to the door jambs. The whole thing can be put on or taken off in 10 minutes. I never carry heavy long stuff though... Usually PVC pipe, an extension ladder, or my brake. Most of the time I just hook up the trusty rusty trailer and use that.
