“XtraCab, available on SR, SR5, and TRD PreRunner grades, is all about maximum utility and comes exclusively with seating for two, a functional rear cabin storage area, and a 6-foot bed. This configuration has no rear doors and no rear seat but makes the most of its cabin with all kinds of additional storage options.”

I was hoping for a TRD 4x4 XtraCab with folding rear seats to be offered.

Any thoughts on the new XtraCab configuration?

Love it, classic Xtra Cab style. I wonder if all the lower grade trucks have leaf springs out back?

Sounds like SR, SR5 and TRD PreRunner will get leafpacks. And at least the PreRunner appears to be spring-under.

I'm thrilled that the extended cab Tacoma lives to fight another day. It's even cooler that the "Xtra Cab" name makes a comeback. Although I'm disappointed that it won't be offered with the TRD Off-Road trim. I'm also wondering if a 4WD version will be offered at all with SR and SR5 Xtra Cabs?

The rear seats on my 2018 Access Cab were pretty useless, so I removed them and put a dog platform back there - much more functional (even when the dog isn't with me). However, losing the doors is a bad idea.

While I love the no rear doors/tip the seats forward for access old school style, it is significantly less practical for loading. Much less expensive to produce it, though…. Which will make it more affordable for many.

Too bad this one doesn’t come with the manual transmission or it would be in my driveway asap.

    Love the solid rear window.

Hoping the air dam can be easily removed!

I’m sure it’s there just to satisfy MPG numbers, much like the 3rd Gen trucks had.

I can’t wait to see the payload numbers of the Xtra-Cab with the manual trans and rear locker, praying it’s available on an SR model. That would be a sweet camper build… For me at least.

Edit: Also want to see if they have integral nutserts in the roof of this XtraCab like the DC trucks always had from 2nd Gen on.

Toyota finally gives some great in cab storage, then makes it a pain in the ass to access.

Most of us who buy access cabs use it for storage rather than hauling people, never fails…Toyota always fucks something up.

While it is nice they kept the Xtra Cab, gravely disappointing that it isn’t an AC.

No rear coil springs available on the XC either. Lame.

Can't say I'd buy one since owning an AC Tacoma and KC Frontier. I use the rear doors constantly. I had an '88 4runner and '91 xtracab, the seats slid mostly out of the way at the pull of a lever but in no way was it better than having a door!

There isn't an option for a manual in an Xtra Cab and 6ft bed? That's the reason I bought my '18

Would have preferred doors and the jump seats TBH. Was fine before imo. Hope the manual is still available in XtraCab.

Same, we still have my ‘99 extra cab that my wife drives, we both love my ‘21 AC because if the rear doors, literally use them every day, constantly throwing stuff back there. Since the truck is still newish, she still says every time she uses them…I love these fucking doors!

    WTF Toyota!?

At least my truck is new, gonna have it for awhile…maybe another 20+ years like my old one? Almost bought a F150 Super Cab over the Tacoma, like damn near gave the Ford dealer a deposit when I was ordering a new truck. It really came down to splitting just a few hairs why I chose the Tacoma. The plan is I keep the Tacoma for 5 years, when I get a new truck my wife gets the 3G. So next go around, it might be a F-Series. After owning Toyotas for 30 plus years, never thought I would say that. They almost lost me as loyal customer the last purchase.

Looks like an option, question is can you get them in 4WD? Man, no rear coil spring available on the SR/SR5 XC that sucks for us who just want a little more improvement over the current model but don’t want too much fluff with having to buy an upper trim. Never cared for how Toyota specs their trims, at least they kept that going! Lol!

if i needed a truck i would choose it over the other 4 door models. but, i would not choose it over the 3G access cab.

as others mentioned, i use that space for storage, tools and clothing i need for work. i am constantly in and out of that space throughout the workday.

the lack of doors would take some getting used to, but inconvenient.

i know the site i am on and i may be the odd man out but, i am not feeling this new gen tacoma. seems like they tried too hard to be all things to all people. there is almost no chance some of the models are not plagued with issues on the initial release. it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
