Hello to the World of Tacoma's!

I was thinking of upgrading my wheels to mount some higher performance rubber on my 02 std cab, and then dropping maybe 2/3 or 3/4 inches for a more aggressive stance and a bit better handling.

Perhaps I am kind of strange that I like OEM wheels even when modifying my truck, and like the look of an 18", or maybe a 17" inch wheel, but hoping to run at least a 245 or 255 tire!

I have seen a couple 1st gen's running the XRunner wheels looking pretty darn nice and would love to see more of these wheels on 1st gen's. But I would like to see other OEM options you all are running and some more pics of other wheels on these trucks. How about from Rav4's, Sienna's, Lexus IS or GS, Solara, etc etc!!

    Please let me know:
    1. What vehicle your wheels came off,
    2. Size and offset if known,
    3. The widest tire with aspect ratio you have been able to mount,
    4. What drop you are running if any,
    5. Other mods done (rolling fenders, removing fender liners, spacers, etc.)

a dropped one and a high one
You're about to go down a suck hole.

5 lug tacomas have a somewhat unique centerbore size. the center bore is 67.1 MM

unlike the 6 lugs which has not changed ever.

X-runner center bore is 60.1 MM so, you would need to bore the wheels out on a lathe which some people say ehhhh don't do that.

here is some information, mind you this website has inaccuracies but should give a rough idea.

    as a side bar;
Please do more research, there is much to learn and find out. Good luck finding wheels.

Well I had a feeling there would not be a ton of OEM wheels out there on these trucks, but this is a ghost town!!

Your website didnt show up, btw.

I do know the center bore is different on these and have seen folks do this many times. Has there ever been report of a wheel failure due to this?

You also might check out customtacos.com, definitely more street Tacoma action going on over there.
Here's my commuter with factory Tacoma S-Runner wheels. Bolt on, hub centric, 215-65-16 tires.

That's right, I couldn't remember the name of the forum that was more geared towards the street trucks. @2Runner you'll have a better chance finding that type of info over there.
But definitely please do stick around here as well man:D I think the forum here is much more active. So tons of good info and resource there, but you wanna kick it here:cool:

Thanks for the tip, I may rerun the post in there and see what happens. Reason I came here is I saw a lot of later Tacomas in the street trucks and I am looking for the 1st gen only.. still learning the best spots to discuss various topics here since I joined only a week ago or so. But I have got a lot of great info from the community already regardless and em enjoying myself here!

Thanks for obliging me with a pic of your truck, not only was I starting to feel segregated, I think it looks superb and them OEM wheels give it that it could have came from the factory like this appearance! Just curious, any reason for running your tire size vs the stock SRunner 235/55/16?

Dont get me wrong fellers, I can appreciate all the work that goes into the bagged wild customs and the low scene which I really love to gaze upon at shows. Oh yeah, I love 4WD's of course and own my second 3rd gen 4runner on 33's that I take out all the time too!

But for this little truck I think the 2wd is so much fun to drive after years of lifted cruising it almost feels sporty, hence I really like where Toyota took these pickups for guys like me with the SRunner/XRunner and I want to make my own version, I guess you could say a 2Runner?!

Thanks for the tips outside of TW, Indeed customtacos has a few threads chock full of drops and wheel offsets that I have stared at for hours and hours on end, but again hard to find guys running oem wheels on there, and custom wheels have custom offsets so those dont translate well to oem versions either. I searched every guy running Xrunner wheels on there and here I could find and no one listed the tire size they are running sadly or I would not have posted this probably.

Ultimately I joined Tacoma World because it seemed to be a lively (active) bunch with great info I was absorbing and folks I could share my Tacoma love with. I was aware my 2wd and build plans would not be for everyone here, even mentioned that in the OP.. but I think it should be here for those that can appreciate all things Tacoma and like to see something different from time to time even!

The site is called Tacoma World after all, and I am living in it!!

I'm running 215-65-16 vs the stock S-Runner size for a couple of reasons. Tire choice is better, my truck does not have flares (unlike an S-Runner) 215 width fills out the wheel wells just fine.
Tire cost is also less in this size. I've known a couple of guys who bored out X-Runner wheels and ran them on 1st gen Tacomas, no probs, one guy had a set on an S/Ced S-Runner, which he drove pretty hard, and was fine. I will note that X-Runner wheels are heavy (esp on a light 1st gen Tacoma), so if you care about real performance you might try something else.

Mine is my primary driver, stock height, KYB gas shocks all around and handles great on pavement. I've got a complete OEM S-Runner rear sway bar I need to install too.

I know you're only interested in OEM Toyota wheels for your 5-luggy Taco, but the stock wheels from my '09 Mustang GT fit my '00 SR5 perfectly.
I ran them last year for 10k miles and never had a single issue. I also have a set of chrome wheels from a '94 Ranger "Splash" that I'm going to test-fit this spring, but I'm sure they will fit just fine.
    Just something to consider.

All of the 1st gen 5 lug Tacomas I've seen running those wheels look very good. I think those Mustang wheels look freaking awesome on the 5 lugs:cool:. There is an S-Runner owner here that runs those wheels but gray with the chrome ring..... I think lol, but yeah looks good:D

Thanks a bunch for this great info, can you recall what size tires your friends were running on the XRunner wheels on their 1st gens by chance PLEASE?!

Great point about the weight of these 18" cast wheels, I am aware they wont be the most high performance option and I may feel a bit more sluggish response. I am just having some fun with this little truck, not making a super car crusher or nothing..

Thanks for adding the (blasphemous) Mustang wheel to the mix, would have been nice if you added offset and tire size too as requested!

Funny enough I have a set of take off 2014 Mustang GT wheels in my garage, I have pondered these thoughts once or twice already... I am thinking to trade these in as wheel shops in my area at least will do this.

When you say "we" this does not include myself!

That 5 lug area sure looks like a MIX of offroad and street.. a non-segregated approach indeed, much like this section!!

On the X-Runner tire size I think they were running the stock 245-45-18s...

You're not supposed to do a search. You're supposed to create a new thread and ask people to answer your questions even if it's been asked before.

Thank you I have seen this beauty of course, I think it was the first post on a 3/4 drop thread. He did list his tire sizes later in the thread but they were a bit scrawny for my liking, I believe due to the IS300 wheels come in mostly a 7 inch width from what I can find. Very sweet truck though, I think those wheels look pretty awesome on there!

Thank you very much for this info, this is definitely a question I was asking though it does not sounds 100% confirmed.. XRunner stock tires were actually 255/45/18.

This is a 27" tall tire and after HOURS of searching and research I found you want to run closer to a 25" tall tire with a 3/4 drop.
