Im trying to decide between a 9500lb winch and a 10000lb winch. Is the almost $200usd worth it?

What are you looking at? I have my eye on the smittybilt 9500 gen2. $299ish for the steel cable version $449ish for the synthetic line.

BTW @EatSleepTacos has a fully built & armored DCAC on 35s and he is running a 9500.

Hopefully he chips in and gives his input.

I've got a Smittybilt X20 on my truck. Only been used twice (bumper installs). Never had to use it in a pinch yet. All I can say is that it still operates 4+ years later.

When it comes to winches though, bigger is always better. And Smittybilt are pretty cheap compared to name brand winches (like Warn).

Either weight rating will be fine. Depends if you want to pay for the extra features like wireless remote.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
Bigger isn’t always better. I would be looking at how much they weigh and their relative pulling capacity with wraps on the drum.

So I went with the X2O 10K synthetic. I did not want to spen $800 on a winch that I wont be actually using that much (warn 10 S).

Just remember that inactivity is the killer of winches. Once a month you want to power out 5’, pull out 5’ by hand, and run it back in. This will ensure everything is lubricated and working properly.

I have been looking at the Smittybilt xrc gen3 12k comp... it has some awesome features for the pricepoint as well as top of the line 7HP motor, and forged 3 stage gearset, synthetic line, and wireless remote with light, and line pull indicator, magnets in handle for holding controller to body panel or bumper... 12k line pull would be more than adequate. I also like the positive free-spool, and engages clutch lever. and lighted spool for spooling into my recessed winch/bumper.. they also have a 9500lb version with the same motor, and controller. 12k shows for just under $700..the x20s are tempting for the price, but I may spend the extra $250.....

Right on, I have a 10K, but I also use it for pulling trees out of the ground.

thanks. I thought I was set on the XRC3 9.5k winch but now thinking this X20 might be the way to go.

Just fyi, the solenoid mount rusted so bad that it basically disappeared after a few months.

I'm trying the side mount first it's kinda flimsy bent sheetmetal... but should last a season or two.. I wash my truck regularly. Worst case order new ones every year, or use the center top mount brackets.

Yeah...I would try to make another mount. Maybe super glue some nuts to the solenoid, and then run a bolt through them and into the winch. Or put the nuts on the bolts then bol them into the winch, THEN super glue the solenoid on there. I think thats your best bet. Welding would be better, but I dont think you wanna try to weld the nuts to the solenoid lol

Got my bumper yesterday.. SSO slimline hybrid, witht he access holes I should be able to plug the winch controller through here... this thing is BEEFY!! welds look great, although lots of spatter, its getting cleaned up edges softened a little, then sandblasted, and powdercoated.
