Would you just deal with this tonneau cover color mismatch?

I am a dude that's all about function, I don't care even slightly about scratches, dirty rims or any of that and focus only on maintenance and it fitting my needs. As such, I decided a shell wasn't as secure as a hard cover and changed the look more than I would like. If I had the 6 foot bed I might have gone for a shell (for sleeing and camping) but that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, I found this hard tonneau cover for $200 and since I rarely see a Tacoma in my color any way I already decided to look for the best deal versus trying to find the right color. So now you see it sitting on my truck and while initially I was thinking about painting it black this isn't bothering me as much as I'd thought it would. Also, a black top on it would turn the bed into an oven on our 116 degree days.

So, thoughts, opinions, ideals, troll comments, smart ass remarks and whatever else are all welcome.

Haha ironically it's the exact same color as the outline color of the writing on the side of the bed.

I'd vote black as well. Realistically I don't think there would be THAT much of a difference in turning the bed in to an oven. And think about it - most tonneaus are black anyway so same result

    Black.

Do your flares with it too.

    Now for the 'opinion' part.

If you want to color match something, make that gas cap door match the truck again.

Debadge the tailgate, loose the decals, blackout the 'Tacoma' badges on the side while you're at it.

And if that's a bull bar brush guard thingy on the front, shop for a real bumper.

If you really didn't care you wouldn't have posted these photos. So I vote paint it as well.

    Well it started like this:

    Now this:

    IMG_1273.jpg

@Clearwater Bill Not sure if that answers your question on not, the bumper might not be up to current standards for you guys since it's been on the truck more the a decade. I do think I will get those badges off the back, I'm not a huge fan actually but the flares stay as I can buy a set of sliders installed for what I saved over those goofy looking Bushhacker flares. Fuel door is just a carbon fiber wrap I put on to tie in the roof which is getting the same thing along with a roof rack I have sitting here.

But I guess I should paint the cover black or maybe better do a wrap on it like I'm doing the roof.

You'll recall I said (in my 'opinion' comments and based on the angles of the initial picture)

Well, it is a real bumper. Which is good.

If it does what you want it to, it's great. But when you redo that hard cover and your flares in that Monstaliner I referred you to, take some time to refresh that front bumper too. And to tie all the look together, you might want to rough up the chrome rear bumper and treat it to Monstaliner as well.

Consider doing your roof with it to, rather than the faux CF wrap stuff.

I notice people are very concerned with appearance so I wasn't sure if the bumper snobs would say it was too old or lacks structural integrity due to not being fresh ( :

What is it with the obsession you all have to put a liner on everything?! Why on earth would I want to go through that effort on totally functional items? You're all insane on here!

Because liner is the most durable finish you can use. VERY scratch resistant, rust preventative, keeps the part protected and pretty fresh looking. Easy to touch up if actually damaged.

    Thanks! We like recognition. :bananadance::thumbsup:

You're my new best friend! Do you already have a best friend? I guess if you do this is now awkward but really you could have a bad best friend so almost any new friend would be the best. Do you still use the iPhones? That could be a deal breaker but otherwise I like your style!
