In the legal sense anyway. I've been on a few here in UT that have a number designation but good luck getting a wildfire truck down it

A Forest service road is a road. Just because it isn't paved doesn't change that.

Geico will cover your personal vehicle for SOME business uses if that vehicle is not primarily a business vehicle and is your personal use vehicle most of the time.

Geico will NOT cover off-road use "We do not offer any offroad coverage regardless of the nature of the incident, nor would we be liable for any use or misuse of any insured vehicle taken off of a recognized government highway or road."

But as others mentioned - if you were on an official USFS System road where street vehicles were allowed (Numbered and official - not a spur trail or OHV trail), you may have a loophole there.

Best would be to ask a bunch of random dudes on a truck Interweb forum that live in states with different insurance regulations. If that fails, I would suggest maybe calling your insurance agent and ask: "Is my truck covered under these circumstances?"

You're gonna have to ask your insurance for the real answer. Mine covered me with some extensive damage I got offroading. I was honest about it, and they were happy to work with me to do what they could. Ended up getting all damage covered after deductible with minimal hassle. Took about a month though for approval between me submitting receipts for aftermarket parts, and them coordinating with the shop on what damage there was.

you are going to have to file a claim with the USFS, if you expect them to address the damage. You are required to report the accident and property damage, so your supervisor should advise you. Yeah, I retired from the FS 17 years ago, and it will require paperwork.

Yeah i did an accident form and im waiting to file a claim with Geico to see if the FS will cover it. I doubt they will since I hit the vehicle in front of me but a man can dream

A coworker rolled his vehicle on a very poorly maintained USFS road and his insurance covered it since it was a legal road. Don't remember who he had though. I would think using a personal vehicle for work would be the bigger issue.

I hope he didn’t blame the “poorly maintained Forest Road” for his roll over, the county park that we sometimes go kayaking got sued because somebody’s kid drowned due to the “uneven lake bottom” that didn't have warning signs and the parents didn’t know how to swim to save him.

He wouldn't have been on it if it was well maintained. Just told them he hit a rough section and ran off the road which was true.

    1. Geico sucks as an insurance company. Expect them to try to use aftermarket parts or low ball you if it is a write off.

    2. They probably will cover it, rule it as an at fault and your rates will sky rocket or if you have some accident forgiveness will be trapped with them for a loooong time.

My concern with coverage isn’t from being off road. Mine would be because you are using it for your employer. If you deliver pizzas many insurance companies don’t cover you. I wonder if this is the same.
