This may sound super ridiculous but i got into an accident a while back and it destroyed my front bumper. I have neither the money to buy a bumper nor the skills to weld one. I am however very proficent in wood working. Would a 8x8 oak bumper work? I can make the brackets and such from steel. The main bumper however would be wood. Thoughts?

Many years ago I drove a SAAB on an ice-racing team in New England. We had front bumpers of doubled 2x12s - primarily to stuff them into the rear decks of VW beetles. If we took out the pulley, we took out the car.
I suspect that the oak timbers you are thinking of would be pretty heavy!
I doubt they'd pass any sort of inspection - but they'd be pretty impressive!!
    Good luck.

Have you tried sourcing a used bumper from a salvage yard? I'm sure that would be inexpensive and a better replacement.

In the state of Virginia. There is no restriction on type of bumper. We are not required to have one for a vehicle under 40,000 lbs. As for looks i dont really care. It would just be in case i smashed into something. I have part of my bumper. Ill post a picture. Disregard my turn signals even though they are pretty sweet.

Just searching "wooden bumper" on google images brings up a bunch of em. Some are super piss poor but some are actually kinda unique and cool. I'd personally never roll with one but hey, it's unique right?

Its cool. It was a serious question but I'm not gonna get butt hurt about it. Its nice to have a good laugh. But I'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't have 600 to drop on a bumper.
