Has anyone had their Tacoma wiring harness chewed up by rodents?

My daughters 2019 Forerunner wiring harness was damaged by rodents in December we found out that Toyota is making the wiring harness covers out of soy, the damage was over $4000, I live in a different city and my 2020 Tacoma was slightly damaged in January my truck is garaged, so where I had it for a short period of time outside of my garage it was also damaged by rodents the repair was $837, when I called my Insurance agent about my damage she said I was the third call that day for that same thing and the dealership has been very busy with this issue. When my daughter’s forerunner was repaired, they put a tape on it that Honda makes that keeps the rodents from smelling the soy. My remedy I have a bar of Irish spring hanging in the engine compartment hoping that will keep them from smelling the soy.

Pretty sure Toyota had a lawsuit about that a few years ago

I had inherited my father's '05 Dodge Dakota. Had rodents chew thru the fuel line. Dealer said to splash Pine-Sol all over the underside to prevent it again.

Irish Spring soap won't help, l have had mice eat it before, try peppermint oil instead.

I pay $40 a month to have a local pest control company keep my property pest-free. No issues since I hired them six months ago after finding rodent damage in one of my old VW’s. I have three bait stations, two of them near where I park. Might be worth looking into, especially if you have any fruit trees in your yard.

Common on most current car brands as an environmental alternative to petroleum/plastic based coatings.

Maybe you need an engine cat?

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately rodents have to chew stuff as their teeth constantly grow. Wires, wether soy based or not are a convenient thing for them to chew on. Just be glad you don’t have beavers in your garage. But seriously, I had mice in my garage and used several methods to get rid of them, spring traps, sticky traps, electronic, and peppermint oil. Haven’t had any problems in a year. Good luck

    Irish Spring.

    Now that's funny.

Just switched to Irish Spring for bathing. I was wondering why rats quit bothering me after eating Chinese.

    Thanks!

They, along with most other manufacturers, used to use a Soy based wire covering. They did this because ANOTHER environmental group sued them for using the chemicals in the previous plastic covered wiring.
Now, Toyota does not use Soy in their coverings and have not for several years. They did get sued for it but it was dismissed, as did other manufacturer's lawsuits.
    Why?
Because, ever since vehicles have had coated wiring, rodents have been eating the coating off. It does not matter what type of coating, they eat it all. Also, Toyota is not the rodent's favorite vehicle as rodents do not care. They eat Fords, Subarus, Dodges and all others too.

It is up to you as a vehicle owner to control your rodents. Insurance will pay but that is as far as you get.

X2 on the cat. I just got a kitten a few months ago because I had problems with mice making nests in the interior air cleaner. Now, no more mice. Cats really are useful.

Our neighbour's cats are always playing and sleeping under our parked RV.. I'll deal with the flowerbed poop for not having to worry about mice in the trailer anyday.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
They can be. Just gotta keep 'em hungry otherwise when well-fed they become fat & lazy.
EDIT: I now keep a mouse trap in the duct leading to the air filter on my Kubota BX-2380. The mice have chewed the heck out of the plastic duct. I catch about 1 per month.

Thankfully, we haven't had any issues with our cars, but rodents found some leftover hay on our porch form a Halloween hay bale that was there years ago. I cleaned the porch and washed away all the bits of hay, even stuff that dropped between. The mice or rats were still coming back, leaving piss and droppings all over the place for a couple weeks. My wife read about mint oil and tired it. Gonzo. Nothing there after just one application.

    Which part? Irish or Chinese?

If you want to be accusatory, you need to be specific.

Or should I just prepare a safe place for you?
