Mine is trained now to accept my cats and chickens (this wasn't always the case). We only lost one chicken so far.

He's still a dick to the cats though...except his favorite buddy.

I ordered this from Amazon for $8. For the soaked rags I plan to go about 25% dilution and 5-10% in a spray bottle. 20201226_131810.jpg

Next door neighbour had his Beemer chewed twice. I’m 40ft away & nothing. Difference has gotta be my dog. Looked it up & that’s why this breed exists. Awesome mouser. She makes it look easy.

I've had fairly good success with ...
I have a 95 Dodge B2500 ... Full size van with a 318. About 5 years ago after sitting all winter ... I found it wouldn't start and then found out that 6 plug wires, along with the coil wire, had been eaten through.
So after $60.00 for a new set of wires, I covered them all with that hard plastic split-loom stuff. It was a days work, but I got them covered from the dist cap all the way down to the spark plug boots. Zero probs since.
Not saying this is the perfect solution, but it sure has worked very well so far.
I've done this on other rigs with wiring harnesses where .. Say a critter can sit on the intake manifold and take their time eating wire like a buffet .. And like I say .. Not perfect, but sure does help. One of those 'Ounce of prevention' things..;)

This. Rodents aren't eating the wiring as much as they grind their teeth on it to keep growth in check.

I too thought the soy wire insulation thing was BS. BUT I had a Volvo, the insulation bio degraded. Nasty mess. Anyway plenty of info on the internet.

Next was the WRX, friggen mice went nuts on that thing. Stuff worked but you had to keep after the mice.

I want to try this but the reviews are not so good: https://smile.amazon.com/Exterminat...keywords=Rodent+Defense&qid=1609008187&sr=8-6

    Does it really work?

My store bought stuff (Which I'm sure is mostly water ... In a 32oz. spray bottle) says:
    .055% Peppermint oil
    .0225% Rosemary oil
    .0225% Garlic oil
    50% White pepper
And of course the 'SHAKE WELL before using' thing.
If there's anything else going on in their elixir, they ain't sayin' .. LOL!
But it looks like it doesn't take a lot of ingredients, to make a lot of mouse-juice.

Yea I understand. My point was there is no material that coats wires that makes them not want to eat the coating. Rubber, plastic, soy based, silicon... they love it all, which is why class action lawsuits get dismissed. They sued Toyota several years ago for using soy based coating and Toyota just showed them where critters eat all other coatings too.

That's exactly the stuff I've been using. I gotta say, So Far So Good ... (On 3 different rigs..)
Since I can't prove a negative (As in letting my wiring get chewed up or not) .. So far, I'd give this stuff thumbs-up ..

Does he want damages or does he want his warranty back? If he wants damages then be all means use that term. Good luck getting damages. If he wants his warranty back, then don’t use that term.

Thanks very much, sorry trying to catch up on replies (I work midnights and just got up). But its USAA which has always been really good, but they refuse to replace it. Also (from another reply) yes my understahnding is it just voids the wire harness portion but I dont want wiring issues somewhere else in the future blamed on this and me having warranty issues.

Also, if the wire was soldered will it hold up as well ? I should have added after i picked up the truck the check engine light came back on 2 days later, then went off a few days after as I was dropping it back off at dealership. The codes that came up were mass air flow, PCV/o2 and downline fuel codes. The dealer couldnt find any more damage, they reset light and I've been fine since. A mechanic buddy of mine said the initial tech may not have cleared the codes out completely the first time, or the intake manifold gasket needed to heat and re-seal..I dont know enough about these engines to know if this was likely issue or not

Toyota is not voiding your warranty. Your warranty still exists. However, if your injectors stop working, if it looks like it is a wiring problem, they will not fix it. It wouldn't make a difference if you had a new wiring harness or not. If it isn't a manufacturer defect, they are not obligated. Obviously this could put you in a difficult situation if you have to prove that whatever breaks is not related to the damage the mice caused. I mean if something is shorted out now, putting a new wiring harness on won't fixt it and Toyota shouldn't be expected to deal with it 6 months down the road. You will get a warranty from the dealer for the repair. Your insurance company may offer some type of warranty if they approved the shop. Worst case if you have problems down the road, it is another insurance claim.

I’m merely saying they can’t void the warranty on anything electrical being covered based solely on the repair of a few wires. Magnuson Moss act, they would then have to prove whatever repairs(done by them) were linked to whatever later issue arises. Many manufacturers allow splicing and even have wire repair kits (Ford has these, including correct wires and splice connectors, some have pigtails available too).

Many manufacturers have a soy product wire outer casing which causes a lot of these problems. Canbus wiring is very sensitive and could very well have issues later from an improper repair, but if the shop couldn’t repair it properly they should have passed on the work. Don’t halfass something and blame someone else for not paying full price when you agreed to repair it under the pretense it would work properly. I’d hate to see a dealership repair an ABS harness or SRS component and have it fail later resulting in injury or death.

I’m a commercial Electrician and regularly solder wires in the course of making repairs or modifications. I can attest that if a wire is spliced correctly it can last for a very long time.

That said the fact that you had to take it back to the Dealer two days after the repairs were made would concern me.

A couple years ago a squirrel found a half eaten candy bar in a trash can, carried it to the top of my engine, left it, came back after it was melted (very hot day) and proceeded to chew up some stuff. I forget the name of the hose it chewed that caused my truck not to start (second pic), but the wiring harness only needed some electrical tape. The insurance company had them replace the entire harness.

The only kind of wiring repair I would trust would be one that was properly soldered with shrink-tubing on it.
Some places might go the quick and easy route with crimp-on butt splices ... And they may seem solid enough, but can have probs later on down the line.

I'm not sure what method they used to fix it, getting info from dealership is like pulling teeth

Previously working for a dealership they would replace the complete harness under the hood when mice started chewing them up. It was faster than trying to look for hidden damage.
