Newbie to this wireless phone charging stuff but ton easier than cables. But my Samsung sits there for 10 min and then gripes about being too hot - it keeps flipping charge on/off every 30 seconds or so.

Outside temp doesn't matter. Anyone have similar experience? Could be phone but put hand on the pad and it is hot AF. 3 week old 21 DC OR MT

Most will agree that charger is garbage. Myself included. Use it for sunglasses or a flashlight

It’s a total P.O.S. I gave the switch away and put a front camera switch in its place. My sunglasses ride there now as the off roads don’t have a overhead holder.

Been a POS since I owned it, when I was working,my drive to work took about 35 min it would top off my Samsung Note 8 just fine. But on the way home took about an hour drive, the phone would get super hot, light on charger would do the flashing, Did it about 4-5 times stopped using it cause it would eventually destroy the battery. I really liked that feature in the Tacoma, very disappointing. As far as been reported on TW, plenty owners have issues with it.

I don't have any issues with it. I have an iphone 10 and haven't noticed it getting hot.

I hope they have resolved that problem cause I am looking forward to using it on my 2021 Taco. Does anyone here have the new 2021Taco.

I agree that the wireless charging is mostly a "selling point" and is not too good for practical use. On the other hand, I've found that when the phone is plugged into the front USB data port, it recharges surprisingly quickly. So if you actually use your phone in connection with your Tacoma, you should have no problem.

    Yeah.
Mine has worked fine with a Samsung and now a Pixel. Both have been in an Otterbox case, not sure if that helps. Mine does get hot and pause after 30 minutes or so, so I just turn it off to let it cool down. You are charging a battery, so it will generate heat.

Yup, they will generate heat especially with some form of case. But the number one killer for these lithium style batteries is heat it will flat out kill them. I have two Samsung wireless chargers in my house, phone is set to rapid charge, and it never gets hot, nothing like the Toyota hot plate we have in our trucks.

Agree, mine works fine (Galaxy S21) w/ otterbox commuter case. But it can get warm using it over extended periods, it's never quit charging on me tho. I love the feature (and agree with the comment on the selling point too), but I do wish toyota invested a little more thought and built in some AC vent or other means of cooling that pad such as a low draw fan, wouldn't have taken too much effort to solve the issue

I have a 2021 and an iPhone 8 Plus (yea, I know, but it works and I don't pay anything for it lol) with an OtterBox case and it works fine. Slowly, but it works and no overheat issues. Be careful which OtterBox case you try though. It won't work with a Defender. I switched to a Symmetry when I got my charger at home and that works in the house and in the truck. Using a lightning cable out of the USB port in the center console is much much faster if you are in a hurry.

Mine always gets crazy hot. If it isn't over heating, it's charging suuuuuper slow.

Interestingly, I recently rented a chevy impala for a road trip, and their wireless charger actually had a small cold a/c vent flowing to it. It worked really great.

The wireless charger seems mostly useless. Mine hasn't overheated or turned itself off, but it charges slow as hell and does get very warm. I never seem to need it though, my phone charges pretty quickly when plugged in to USB for android auto.

I've noticed the pad/phone would build up more heat if I had my case on. I assume this is due to the case acting as an insulator, as without the case the pad/phone is only slightly warm to the touch. I wouldn't say it's useless, it works great for charging Airpods. iPhone 8plus here as well
