I just purchased a new-to-me 2021 TRD Sport and LOVE it! My new ride includes Apple CarPlay. However, Apple CarPlay only seems to work when my iPhone is physically plugged into the dash USB port. Really?! Is there any way to get Apple CarPlay to work wirelessly on this stock head unit/stereo system? Thanks in advance for your help!

Yup that’s how it works. You can buy a wireless Apple CarPlay adapter on Amazon. I’ve never used one but it’s on my list.

Look for Carplay2air, it is a good adapter.

    Fascinating! Thanks for the prompt guidance @AleHole , @steve1503 & @twtaco$ !!

FWIW, I just hopped on Amazon and picked up an Anyfar A4 Wireless CarPlay Adapter. Chose this one to eliminate the wire; plugs directly into the USB port. Fingers crossed!

Been looking for one that is able to play movies and videos. Haven't found one and kinda gave up since I don't mind plugging my phone in since I got like an iPhone 12 or something. Battery life is terrible.

I used one of the wireless CarPlay adapters and it works fine but the wireless charging pad makes my iPhone overheat so I quit using it

Lookup magic box. Works good for me and I can also watch YouTube and Netflix movies on the dashboard as I sit and wait for kids practice to end.

I used a carlinkit and it broke. The power port broke and when I opened up the unit, it was cheaply built. I did have some issues and I would have to unplug then plug back in to get it to work.

I am now using some $50 adaptor from Amazon and it works good but not great. If I start the truck and drive to my work or whatever, it works good. If I decide to stop at a convenient store, park and turn off the truck, then get back and start my truck, the adaptor acts up. So I have to unplug then plug back in. When it screws up, I can’t control the volume or skip songs. They are cheaply made and have some bugs.

Maybe the more expensive ones work better, but expect some issues here and there. Out of 5 stars, I’d give my experience with these aftermarket adaptors to be 3 stars….. maybe 3.5 stars out of 5.

Magic bow is the same way where every time you have to shut off the truck and start up again it takes a minute to get it up and running again.

the problem is, it’s just not part of the truck.

Guess this can’t be done with the 2019 TRD OR? You need wired CarPlay already, correct?

the one I got doesn’t have that issue. Every time I start the truck, like if I turn it off to get gas and turn it back on, it reconnects just fine. Here’s the link

There's no reason these shouldn't work with aftermarket carplay head units, yeah?

Should work just fine. Probably better. But a lot of newer aftermarket ones already have wireless CarPlay if they have CarPlay

Righto - I goofed when ordering and bought the head unit without wireless car play :( Since i've already installed the deck, I'll just go with it.
