Coming to you all in hopes of some help…

I have an aftermarket pioneer DMH-W4600NEXF20A head unit.

I have liked it for the most part but I have been having issues with my wireless CarPlay dropping mainly in the exact same locations on one of my local drives.

it’s kind of frustrating and I was hoping someone might have some insight on why this might be happening.

First it will cut out like sat radio losing its signal and then it just disconnects from the head unit and I have to reconnect it… sometimes but rarely it will reconnect by its self after it disconnects.

this is a bit far fetched but... what if someone has a jammer around the area you keep losing connection? Do you lose any cell phone bars? Dropped calls?

Maybe not a jammer, but maybe the area is saturated with a lot of 2.4 GHz traffic. Bluetooth and Wifi are on that band - could be the culprit of this issue.

That would have to be a boat load amount to cause such significant disconnect for OP... but it is possible

two of the 3 places that it happens are pretty rural… the 3 spot is right inside a decent sized town of 15k or more people.

all three spots are on the same hwy about 7-10 miles from start to finish.

I did have that problem once in a Ram truck, it ended up being the phone update caused some issues. I removed the phone from the HU and re-connected it as if it were the first time. Just my two cents.

Had the same issue with my KENWOOD on a road trip recently. Turns out, where it happend, there was no cell service at all, or very spotty at best. Wired helped, as I think the phone was trying to keep cell and 2.4GHz signals going at the same time, but the lack of service did it to me.

there is plenty of service in these areas… in fact when I head into the woods with no service at all and as long as I have Spotify playing before service ends I never lose music or Apple Maps for that matter

Just had a drop of CarPlay today in a well covered area. Might have something to do with the major bugs that are in IOS17.

Wireless carplay is known for having drop out problems, do a google search on it.

Hey, I had/have nearly the same head unit (4660). Have been having issues with it since day one and tracking issues in my build post below:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ld-the-gray-ghost.677890/page-5#post-26947054

My latest problem is the screen went completely white and wouldn't respond to touch input. I was on the road when it happened, and much to my own dismay made the decision to buy yet another one. Even the brand new unit crashes/drops. It doesn't happen all that often but it's frustrating.

My own personal belief is that it is a combination of poorly coded Airplay/iOS with each update, and either Spotify or Waze/Apple Maps also having some weird conflict or bug. Lean more towards iOS bugs and Spotify being more crappy as each day goes by. And as others have said iOS has major known issues but so do the later releases of iOS 16 because that's what I'm still running. If it helps qualify any of this insanity, I do L2 IT support as my day job so generally I feel like I've got a decent grasp on this stuff because it's what pays my bills.

Had I not been on the road I would have replaced this POS with a new Sony ES unit but that's just me. Good luck.

I had time to stop by the audio place I bought my head unit from and installed…

He said the places that told him it was disconnecting have known high RF in and around that area and that’s why it’s disconnecting :annoyed:

don’t know whether or not to believe him but I have no reason not to since he has done a few things for me on my truck and always given me great customer service.
