    The dealer said this 82164-04780
    * wire harness needs to be replaced
    * it will be $$$ to do the job.
    * The bed must come off to do the job.

    ? Has anyone done this
? A task of unplugging then plugging the new one in
? Other than swapping out the wires is there any other things like a computer to do the job
? Never seeing the bottom of a toy, instead of taking the bed all the way off, might the bolts be loosened and the bed lifted up to get to the connections
? Any pics of the bottom of a tacoma that shows the locations of the wires

    Thanks

As someone who has replaced a few frame harnesses, pulling the bed makes life much easier.

What kind of issue are you having that they want to replace the harness for?
Most wiring harnesses can be repaired pretty easily.

I'd just find and repair the broken wires, I'd never replace an entire harness for a few broken wires. Not to mention $500+ just for the harness
Dealerships usually refuse to repair harnesses, they will only replace them so you would need to go to an independent shop or do it yourself to go that route.

Guessing to find and repair any wires there would be a need for a circuit tester then you would need to find a way to test wires one by one from front to back .. hmmm

Then if the bad spot was under the bed it would still have to come off to get to it.
I found some pics of toys with the bed off to get an idea what is there

    My notes

The video of how to take the bed off is step by step perfect.. I know I could do that..
I have the info I need now, thanks u guys :)

Well according to the notes you posted what the dealer gave you the issue is under the front seat so it would make sense to start looking in that area (that is if they aren't BSing you).

Definitely start with that front seat area that they mentioned. You don't need to replace the whole wire per se.

Long ago in college I bought an Oldsmobile that turned out to get awful fuel mileage. Turned out a section of wiring got melted together and it had a ton of open circuits, false readings, etc.

Found another car at the boneyard and cut out the section I needed, since the spot was so close to the end connections under the hood I just spliced one at a time and used the spliced wire's connector to the engine sensors etc. Ran me about $40 tops and a little time.

    Oh, lend me your comb?

Is this the wiring diagram for my 2008 Tacoma?

    One last thought
Had the frame replaced at 159,530 miles last check 164,715 miles .. about 5000 miles since the frame was replaced and I do not drive on salted or snowy roads if my liberty is working.. Should be very little rust to deal with they replaced clips .. n connections as well as the frame.

I’d start with a visual inspection and photos of anything that looks suspect. That will help others opine on the scope.

I don’t trust the dealership on this one based on the language. Sounds like they only want to help if it’s a big enough job to make sense for them. Which is fair but doesn’t mean it’s for sure a big job. It could be one or two small spots to patch and easier to leave the rest intact as-is.

depends on the extent and severity of any damage. Rodents are one thing, flood / corrosion is another and abrasion damage is a third. One spot vs many spots vs no visible spots is also part of it.

it’s tough to know without doing a full replacement whether or not it’s worthwhile to do a full replacement.

Also, $500 is a lot to spend. But this isn’t an easy part to find clean in a junk yard or online.

I definitely wouldn’t immediately give this to the dealer. I’d at least try to get a better understanding of the scope and try some DIY first.

The dealer said there is a problem with the wires under the seat I could see nothing so next advice remove the seat.. 4 bolts and unplug the wires
    IF a wire replacement happens
    Looking on line

    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~wire~frame~82164-04780.html?vin=&make=Toyota&model=Tacoma&year=2008&submodel=&extra1=&extra2=&filter=(1=2TRFE;6=5F;7=RCB;0=TRN220L-TRMDKA)
If the wire is needed this says Manufacturer Toyota This genuine Toyota part is guaranteed by Toyota's factory warranty. $518
Other places well over $700 -$800

Why wouldnt I buy it at $300 less?

If the damage is all in the cab, I wouldn't pay a dime for an OEM part to replace it b/c you don't have any concerns about waterproofing. Just splice in new wire and cover with loom and forgetaboutit. Use heat shrink butt connectors and a heat gun or solder or butt splice or however you need to. It'll be totally fine, electrons and copper don't have part numbers on them.

I'd be more tempted to consider an OEM part if it involved exterior connectors, especially in the engine bay or near the exhaust system.
