Just wondering if you Cannucks could point me to a good set of winter blades. I have seen reviews on several, and I was wondering what you are using up here in the great white north.
Are the beam blades good or should I opt of the regular with the covers.

I use the Michelin ones they sell at Costco for $10/blade. Don't get frozen up like the spring ones do, they're cheap and they last a reasonably decent time.

I was looking at the Rain X beam blades. They are pretty pricey though. I will check out the Costco ones now.

I picked up a set of Rain X Lattitude wipers. I installed them and now the top couple of inches don't seem to hit the windshield. WTF. I am totally fedup with this aftermarket crap The OEM wipers work much better but I am not sure if they will perform in the snow. I will give the new ones some time to relax and see how they work. I got them on sale from Partsengine so I am not out a lot. Obviously one size does not fit all!

I use the cheapest beam style blades I can find and replace them every spring. Doesn't seem to matter how much they cost, they still seem to not work as well after a winter so no sense spending crazy money on them.

    Exactly

I was always taught to replace blades every 6-12 months
So I purchase the motor master brand winter blades with Teflon at the beginning of each winter.

I use PIAA Sporza. Pricey at first, but the body lasts forever and the refill blades last a long time (2 years). I've had this set for 6 years.

... and they clean your windshield of all kinds of crap.

On an off chance that they might help me I emailed my local dealer. I have a good contact in parts and she hooked me up with a set of Winter Wiper Blades from Toyota. They are new this year and are the beam type. They were about 40 dollars including taxes a pair and went on with one click. So far they are good but it is early. I will see how they do in the heavy weather.

Update: I have had them now for a month and winter has set in. They are really working great. I have had no issues with ice build up and they wipe clean every time. I will be using them from now on. I will keep a set of summer and winter blades. Although these would probably do year round.

The "Toyota" beam blades sold in dealers are rebranded Trico blades, if I remember correctly.

I'm running Bosch Icons, and they are pretty good in the snow and on the highway.

For the price I would say the OEM what ever they are work really well. The Lattitudes were not even close. They left a swath about 2 inches on the return stroke on the driver side. That would build up and cause an issue in driving snow. These fit perfectly and work well. I was able to return the Lattitudes. I can't see spending more than OEM for anything now. I just assumed the OEM would be more pricey than the after market. It seems as if the aftermarket has over priced their blades. I did a check of several and the feedback in general is that they are not doing what they claim, and the low end priced ones are as good if not better. Of course your results may vary.
