I have picked up Tacoma month ago and looking to get me some winter tires. I have the 265/70/17 stock rims setup for now.

Anyone would know what tires are decent for winter conditions for 17 inch rims for a decent price?

Should I contact my dealership to hook me up with some winter tires since I just picked up the vehicle?

    Thanks in advance

I have been running Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV tires for winter since I got my truck. They have been awesome tires for the conditions I see. They aren't the cheapest tire but I would say they are well worth the price.

I wouldn’t go through the dealership. They will probably charge you more than necessary. Simple Tire has really fast shipping. Discount Tire has phenomenal customer service and will price match (and they’re on here).

I run a 3PMS rated all terrain tire year round, but I have also heard great things about the Hakkapeliittas.

Just be sure you get those mounted on separate rims..Steel is a good choice. Can take a lot of abuse and unlike aluminum will usually bend during impacts whereas an aluminum rim may crack and lose all the air. And if mounted on separate rims you can do the swap over in your driveway yourself...Lots of good tire choices out there. Try tirerack.com , lots of testing and comparisons, video's and reviews

Neighbors had one set of rims... After 3rd mount/dismount of summer/winter none of the tires would seal anymore.

I run the same size summer tire 265/65X17 but downsized to 245/70X17 for my winters. Same rolling diameter so no issues with speedo. Narrower is better in the winter and the smaller size is also cheaper. I run Yokohama G075's found then to be decently priced and long lasting..

Place I bought them from in Canada mounted and balanced and shipped then for free. Lots of places like that in US.

May want to check your math on that one unless it's a typo. 245/70r17 is definitely smaller than 265/70r17

I'm personally a big fan of the blizzak DMV2 for street use. I run them on my work truck, on my tacoma however I'm gunning a studded yoko G017. But that truck get winter wheeled and driven on lakes so strong sidewalls are required.

upload_2023-11-1_6-33-51.jpgDuring winter, one could encounter sloppy, muddy conditions, therefore, Super Swampers are always the answer.

Hakkapeliittas and Blizzaks are always a good bet.

The Nokian Nordman looks like it could be a good budget option.

Yep typo ... Original was 265/65X17 winter 245/70X17
    Revs per mile 660 661 Diff -0.3%
And I agree on the blizzak.. My only concern previously was that I was commuting and would wear out the sticky multicell portion of the tread (top 45%) quickly.. But now that I no longer have to commute the would have been a better choice that my Yokohama's. Will look at them again in 8 years when its time to retire the current ones

Costco has good pricing on Blizzaks. I just got five 265/70R16 mounted and lifetime balance for $940. They don't show up on their website, you have to go to the counter and ask.

    Same here. A GTA resident..

You can try https://pmctire.com/ Currently doing free shipping on tires and wheels
    or https://www.4tires.ca/

    I have dealt with both.

I damn well wish I got i got 8 years out of a set of tires. Mines a weekend truck and I still manage to kill a set every 1-2 years. But that's what alot of gravel and trail miles will do to a set of tires. Aswell as easily 4000km a month

Haka for dedicated snows but Goodyear Duratrac for all season snows, they are a beast in the snow.

    245 75 R16 for winters. Blizzaks

16" steel wheels for the set

Get a quote from costco, then go to the dealer, they will price match and you'll get OEM steel rims to match the truck.

    Done.

You want the smallest rim, narrowest tire, and same oem stock diameter for winters.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much of a difference do winter tires make over the stock tires I have on my 2023? I live in Idaho so, plenty of ice and snow here, but I'm also broke now after buying the truck!

Well, I should add that I had been driving a 2000 Camry for the last 20 years, and never bothered with winter specific tires, and other than it being a Camry and getting stuck a few times, never really had an issue. So I admit I am not super convinced... but also admit that I am a truck noob and know nothing about driving it in winter, or at all for that matter.
