I am starting to look around for a set of dedicated winter tires for my truck. Is there any advantage to running the stock size 265/70/16 or the skinnier size 245/75/16 that comes on some of the trucks. Thanks.

skinnier usually offers better steering in snow

What tire are you looking into?
I've heard great things about the toyo observe gsi 5

I've had a set of michelin x ice for 4 years now on my jetta, going to check them tomorrow to see if I can squeeze one more season out of them.

I was looking at the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2. The 245's are about $100 cheaper a set as well for some reason.

I too am looking into getting winter specific tires. I ran them on my previous vehicle (Mitsu Outlander) and NEVER got stuck. I'm not really into changing tire size down as I don't want to have to worry about whether or not the speedo is accurate. Any thoughts on that?

I don't think speedo problems would be an issue with these two sizes as the rolling diameter is almost identical. The 265's are the stock size on the TRD O/R and the 245's are stock on the SR/SR5.

Unless you're trying to drive on snowmobile trails... then you want to float.
