I replaced my alternator today and when I was done, I jumped my truck back off and for some reason my windshield wiper blades will not turn off unless I unplug it from the actual motor. The fuse is fine and even when the fuse is pulled the wipers still keep going. Don’t know how to diagnose. Thanks!

What do you mean you "jumped your truck back off?" If you are in fact pulling the correct fuse and they are still running then there could be a short to power on the component side of the fuse. If they keep going when the key is off then that short must be a "hot at all time" wire. Need to explain first though...

Battery was dead had to jump it off from the alternator being bad. The wipers will only turn off when I turn the truck off, or disconnect the wires from the wiper motor. I am checking the right fuse and even when fuse is pulled the wipers keep going. I’m leading to think it’s the relay inside the wiper switch?

    What year is your truck?
Do you have delay wipers or just 2 speed wipers?
Just asking so I can look up the correct wiring diagram.

If you are pulling the fuse then they should not have a power supply but find a wiring diagram to be sure

I have delay wipers I’m pretty sure. I have multiple speeds I can choose from if that’s what your asking buddy. Everything I’m seeing online said to check replace the actual wiper switch next to the steering wheel because that’s where the relay is? Thanks!

That’s what I would think. The wiper liter and the wiper fluid pump run on the same fuse (10 amp) when I pull the fuse the wiper fluid pump doesn’t work but the wipers themselves keep on trucking until truck is off or I disconnect wires from the wiper motor

If your pulling the 30 amp WIP fuse and they are still running something is shorted to power, otherwise yes you need to check the switch and the park circuit in the motor.

So there’s two fuses related to the windshield wiper system? I was only looking at the 10 amp fuse under the steering wheel. Your telling me to check the 30 amp under the hood?

Yes the 30A WIP fuse is the power feed for the wiper motor and switch, the 10A WSH fuse only feeds the washer pump.
I suspect you either have a bad park detection switch in the motor or a bad wiper switch.

So would you suggest changing the motor first, then the switch? I’m unsure of a way Farley simple way to troubleshoot either. Also thanks for your help

This happened on one of my 1st gen trucks. I was driving, wipers off, and they came on without me touching the switch. Refused to shutoff. I found a damaged place in the wire harness, down by the plug connected to the washer pump.

Edit: that second pic is after I cut open the wire. The damage originally looked pinched, but not real idea how it could have happened where the wires were located.

    Thanks for the update:thumbsup:

It's always nice when someone asks about an issue that they are having, and are nice enough to get back to us about the solution.

I once had my electric fan stuck on and running on a 97 Mustang years ago. It wouldn't stop unless I unplugged the battery. I located the relay for the fan in the wheel well, took it out and banged it a few times. The relay was stuck so it needed a couple of whacks. I plugged everything back in and never had an issue again.

I'm glad you found your fix and reported back to everyone. This thread will help someone in the future!
