My windshield cracked. Replacement from safelite is covered. For OEM glass is $200. Anyone have experience with safelite. The said they recalibrate everything.

An update...... safelite replaced my windshield with OEM glass. However they were unable to calabrate the safety features. They said I should go to the dealer to have it calabrated. I took it to the dealer. They want 455 to calabrate it. They said its a 2-3 hour job. My insurance is covering it but isn't that crazy. Makes me question how safelite calabrates vehicles after they replace the windshield. I watched safelite calabrate a couple cars but it only took 20 minutes.

Great experience here....but no need for calibrations with my poor tech-free 2016. :bananadance:

The only experience I have with Safelite is they made a gigantic crack when I just wanted them to repair a rock chip. Never again. I had the whole thing replaced with non-OEM a few months later for under $400 no insurance. Tech calibrated it and it's been fine since.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I have had them do 3, maybe 4 windshields. No complaints. That said, I have heard it suggested that you make sure to get the Pilkington Toyota glass.

What’s the total cost of parts and labor? I had my rear window bashed in and went to Toyota to get it replaced and charged me $1100. Luckily, my insurance covered the cost but definitely not worth it imo especially when I asked for a price breakdown and they told me it was $300 to “recalibrate” the auto window. Even Dealership had to use a third party service for window replacement. Hopefully that gives you some perspective.

$200 for oem seems like a good deal. I got quoted $700 more for Toyota glass on my FJ.

Calibration is not required. Slide the plastic cover off and remove the radar thing off the glass without disconnecting it.

I’ve had dozens of windshields on all sorts of vehicles replaced by Safelite with no issues in my lifetime. It’s only been since I joined TW that I ever started hearing bad things about them.

I had my replaced by a local company. They had the best price, about $330 cash for my 2020. It's not OEM by the way. Stealership wanted $1500 for oem and calibration

He even gave me the one with the go pro mount. Supposed to have the acoustic interlayer etc

No calibration was needed for me. Been working great for the last 5 months.

    funny story...
Had a broken side window on my 2nd Gen when some asshole shot it out with a BB gun while I was driving on a country road. Called Safelite and had a morning appt. I got to the appt 12 minutes late due to unforeseen traffic ( I'm hardly ever late for anything). Guy at the counter read me the riot act, I would mess up his schedule yada yada... I apologized. I'm now sitting in the waiting room for 45 minutes, thinking they took someone ahead of me. another half hour and they haven't taken my keys. I approach the douche at the counter to ask what the timeline was. and he then admits they DO NOT have my window and he is trying to locate one... I blew my F-ing stack at him and peeled wheels through the shop since there were cars parked behind me. I left a burnout and drove to a local glass guy who had an oem window within the hour for less.

Good experience in 2020, about two months after I bought my used 2019. Insurance covered it under my comprehensive. They sent a guy out to seal the chip. He told me that it might not hold, but if it didn't they'd replace it.

    It didn't.

Safelite had me drop the truck off at their shop, they replaced the windshield and recalibrated the camera system. Only advice they gave was to not take it to a carwash for two days.

About a year later I got a small chip on the passenger side. Again they sent a guy out to seal the chip. Been a year since then and it's still fine.

Are you sure its OEM, I was under the impression they did their own knock-off glass. Had them replace an old honda, the glass was absolute trash. Never again

Just got my glass replaced today ironically. I ended up paying 375. Glass was 243$. $100 install and the rest tax / glue.

no need for calibration on my 2019 once done. And now I have the go pro mount :D

Post up the DOT number etc when it’s done. I’d bet it isn’t OEM glass from safelite. They mostly use Chinese made glass

If it’s a difference of $200 get the oem glass.

The rep for safelite said if I use their glass it costs me nothing. I asked if they use OEM glass. He said i would need to pay $200 out of pocket for OEM glass.

I never replaced the glass on my Taco, but did on my Audi. I went to a local glass shop whose customers are primarily new car dealers. When the shop called Audi of Greenwich with the VIN # to get the exact glass part #, and said sarcastically, "You again?", I knew I was in the right place. The shop was full of photos of collectible cars that they have worked on.

Compare this to Safelite, whose technician I saw this Wednesday replacing a F-150 windshield outdoors in 38 degree weather. Having a chemistry background, I know that adhesives have specific "preferred" temperature to properly set up and cure, and don't think 38 degrees is it.

These are my objective observations - draw your own subjective conclusions, but I know where I would go. Just my 2 cents.
