Need windshield replaced. I have a $500 glass deductible. Can get Pilkington replacement for $500 or OEM for around $850 not going through insurance (they won’t cover OEM). I know it’s the same manufacturer, I’m assuming the dimensions/fit are nearly the same. I believe the OEE Pilkington has the acoustic layer as well. I drive 20k plus miles per year, only a matter of time before I have to replace again (went through 3-4 windshields in my 2nd gen).

If it was you, would you just go with the unbranded OEE Pilkington glass and save $400?

If it’s a large crack I’d go cheap.
Today I just got a stone chip. Safe lite wants $159-219 to fix it. Seems way too high

    Pilkington is OEM.

My original windshield cracked at about 5k miles, second one (pilkington) cracked at about 5k miles as well. Both garbage.

The only difference is on my replacement windshield doesn’t say TOYOYA and go pro mount does not have “go pro” on it.

Last year I had Toyota dealership replace my 2020 OR windshield.
    #56101-04082 A0 - GLASS SUB-ASSY. WIND

USAA insurance, who kicked me over to Safelite. During my phone conversation w/Safelite the rep became argumentative and otherwise a dick. Called USAA back and told them I was going to dealership, would pay my $500 deductible and wanted new Toyota factory windshield, which is what I got.

I had one as well, repaired around two months ago. Was sleeting ice last week and had the defroster on high as the windshield was freezing over; cracked from the area of repair.

Changed my cracked windshield for a "non oem" Pilkington couple years back. Imo there's a little more wind noise than the true oem version...I also no longer have the VIN in that little cutout slot in the windshield on the driver's side.

Overall worth the little savings imo

After doing glass for the better part of 6 years OEM is literally the same as an OE minus the branding.
There was a point where the Nissan Rouge shields we were getting you could see where the Nissan logo was etched off.
Now if we start talking about an OEE grade of glass just stay away from it. Vinyl layer is always thinner glass is generally thinner, much worse QC the company I worked for just stopped offering it as an option due to on going warranty issues.

So just go for the Pilkington and save $400?

Just to be clear your OE is a Toyota branded shield, aka a pilkington without the toyota branding. This is your original equipment
OEM is the pilkington. That's your original equipment manufacturer
OEE is original equipment equivalent usually off brand such as xyg
As long as it's a pilkington brand it's worth the savings. I'll never pay for a true dealer part again with what I have seen over the years.

My windshield says Pilkington on it on the lower right corner. Unfortunately the quality is so horrendous that I will have to replace it. It has so many manufacturing defects that I get a headache from trying to stay focused on the road. It’s wavy, has micro bubbles and impurities in it. Sucks.

IMG_7806.jpg This would be the correct Pilkington part #. Mine is perfect.

Apparently mine was made at their plant in China.
