I’m going to cut to the chase.

I’m looking for advice on what to do, within the past year I’ve had my windshield replaced on my 2020 Off-road 6 times under warranty through Safelite. The windshield keeps leaking usually from the passenger side but after this last replacement, from the drivers side. Was without my truck for 2 weeks due to the water damage cause by one of the leaks (their insurance paid for my upholstery to be dried out and repaired) and I’m at a point where I don’t know what to do anymore. Had the windshield replaced twice last week so it could be resealed and after this last time it is STILL leaking. Has anyone had an experience like this? Should I ask for a refund? Should I let them keep at it so they can be responsible for any damages in the future? I have no faith that they can even get the job done right anymore.

Try another vendor. They fixed my truck and put a 2 inch crack in it. Told me before they started tht they might crack it. It hasn't leaked tho.

Did you initially file an insurance claim with your auto insurance carrier for the first replacement windshield? If so, I'd contact your insurance provider and tell them the work was not completed properly and you want the windshield replaced by another company.

Yep. They did $5000+ in damage to my truck replacing the rear window (window wasn’t put in properly, broke all the plastics in the pieces removed in the cab, dented the room and scratched up the paint). Their insurance covered me getting it fixed somewhere else and they wanted to replace the glass again instead of having another shop do it. Body shop was like …you guys are the ones that caused this mess in the first place, we are gonna have a place we trust do it.

I’ll never have work done there again and highly encourage others not to as well.

I’d go in and talk to the manager. Tell them that they’ve replaced this multiple times and can’t seem to get it right so you want them to refund you or cover having someone else do it. Worse that happens is they say no.

either way, I’d quit wasting time with them and go to an independent glass shop. I sure wouldn’t have given them 6 chances..

Have you seen the truck with the windshield removed? I’ve seen threads on a 4Runner where Safelite cut through the firewall with the tool they use to cut the windshield out. Sounds like it’s pretty easy for an inexperienced glass guy to do on certain vehicles.

Glass brand doesn't matter when it comes to leaks it's all about the monkey doing the work.

We are talking about a persistent leaking issue not defects in the vinyl layer.......

As a previous glass tech that worked for a larger franchise group then a Toyota dealership I can tell you all glass brands come with defects. Oe oem oee, doesn't matter. What does matter is proper inspection prior to install. If you leave with defective glass regardless of brand this falls onto the tech. It's on the tech to clean as inspect the new part before cutting out the old part.
So I revert back to my previous statement it all comes down to the one doing the work.

    That’s a bummer man.

Not sure how people can be so bad at doing windshields? I had safelight come out to my work and replace mine. I helped the guy do it because my ditch lights were in the way and it would have been hard for one man to do. Helped removed the old one and put new one on…seemed super simple … hard to mess up lol.

Take it to a body shop. It's likely the surface is rusty around the channel where the seal sits and not the glass. Let the shop take it down, respray it and call in their glass guy. It might be costly, and you will lose your windshield and you'll be without your truck for a few days, but it'll be done right, and you won't have to keep throwing windshields on a damaged surface and be stressed out over leaks.

So, I currently have a crack and I was actually planning on going to Safelite tomorrow to inquire about them replacing it. So, does anyone have any recommendations reputable places in the Portland, Oregon area?

Sadly safelite has bought up pretty much all the small glass companies in my area or pushed them out of business.

Maybe I saw it here, but someone said if you go to Safelite, always ask the person at the front desk for an experienced installer, and that you don't mind waiting... which is what I did, the guy said sure, no problem. And while I did wait an extra hour, I had zero issues, and went with the OEM glass, which Geico covered anyway.
