^^^^ agree . It's good idea to have good insurance and some kind warranty these days , my truck is certified so might help .When I got my Tacoma I went over my insurance and added zero on glass replacement and zero on deer damage and things like that . I Also added free car rental at $30 a day for up to 30 days .

Any newer vehicle with a camera or lane departure warning system needs a calibration in order for the vehicle to work as its suppose to. Other wise you will be watching lights flash and blink on your dashboard until its calibrated. Yes it sucks for the expense side of things that is why I stick with older GMC trucks or other older vehicles as the new ones are getting to high tech and costly to keep up to par.

$400 is quite high for the calibration. My whole job was $650ish. I'm still considering lowering my deductible or getting glass coverage.

Just had it done on my '18 Pro, full sensors, wiper & blade replacement with the windshield, at the Toyota dealer. $860 but 100% covered by insurance. Figured it was worth it for piece of mind to have it done at the dealer rather than one of the mobile quick change glass services. Good insurance pays off every now and then!

It does, but bad thing is, if you ever decide to change companies, it will show you made a comp claim against the policy. I mentioned before, I was shopping around for cheaper insurance, everyone I called was double what I was already paying. I finally asked one lady why was so high, she told me I had 3 windshield claims in 5 or 6 years. Even though it wasn't an accident, still went against my record.

Guy at safelite just asked me if it’s a sr or sr5 for the windshield replace. So I said it’s a trd off-road figure it has some sr5 sensor systems in it. Has anyone else had this issue?

Was also asked similar question, is the camera hole on the top windshield a triangle or trapezoid.

Sr5 for the trd off road version if they ask anyone the same question they asked me. I have to look at the windshield to see the shape.

First of all the sensors are in the windshield there on the hardware and camera itself that’s attached to the windshield unless the guy is an idiot in a hurry or doesn’t know what he’s doing there’s no need to re-calibrate anything. If the vehicle is off while the work is being done the camera and the sensors aren’t even on so there’s nothing for them to read this doesn’t even make sense it’s just a way for the windshield companies to make extra money off of the insurance companies or maybe in your case off of private parties I just had mine done today and there was no calibration necessary I drove home and tested all the components lane departure, Adaptive cruise control highbeam sensor and everything else involved and they all worked just as they did before I had it replaced the only way I would see that being needed is if the vehicle was in some type of front end collision and the windshield was being replaced and somethings got knocked out of calibration. I’m just telling you it’s a way to make money why would I lie I’m not getting nothing out of this thread financially I literally had it done an hour ago

When I bought my new Tacoma, the salesman used "windshield calibration" as a selling point for extended warranty coverage. I could tell it was a bunch of BS.

This same guy told me that an aftermarket driver's side grab handle would mess up the airbag. Again, BS.

Agree. Just had windshield replaced on my '18. I was told as long as you don't disconnect the camera while truck is running then there is no need to for calibration. Had it replaced for $286 with lifetime warranty.

Windshield replacement last week fellas (and gals). My 2019 Taco SR had badly cracked windshield. I learned from Toy service advisor which auto glass co. to use in east central Alabama and that they knew how to replace the windshield without unplugging the camera...this saved me $$$ for camera recalibration. The total bill was $270, including taxes...better than $800 - $1000 I've read about.

Anyone knows a place in either Austin/Houston/Dallas area that would replcae it without the need for recalibration?

I'm on the fence but need a new one bad for my 19. Local mom and pop place is $330 for Pilkington replacement but can't calibrate the camera. Insurance wants me to go to Safelite ($500 deductible) but they're $800 with the calibration. Not sure if I chance with no calibration or pay the extra $170 (out of my pocket) and just go the safe route with Safelite.

I was told by several technicians that as long as the camera wasn't disconnected while the truck was running then no calibration would be needed. Literally had mine done 2 days ago and have had zero issues with any of the sensors.

I'm not sure why a cal is required...its not like the new windshield is being installed at a different angle than the old one.

Three windshields replaced on my ‘20 Sport and a calibration was never done. No issues.
