Had my windshield replaced about a month or 2 ago and it's leaking from the top.
The leak is small and on the passenger get side above the mirror I can see it coming into the truck
Should I take it back and risk them making a bigger mess of things or just put some sealant at the leak.

Does the thing rubber strip around the outside of the window come off?

I would probably take it back.
Does it have some kind of warranty?

No idea. I honestly don't like the place but it's the only glass place within 2 hours of me
I'll give them a call and see what they say I suppose.

Yea man, call the guys that replaced it and see what they say. Probably the best way to fix a leak in the windshield is to remove the glass all together and redo the seal from scratch. A bit of sealer applied externally will not be a permanent fix.

To fix it properly is going to require a removal and new seals etc.

Not necessary. I worked in the glass business for many years and can say that is not always the case. If the windshield is encapsulated (molding attached to the windshield) then yes. If it is non encapsulated (rubber trim piece that fits in the groove between the glass and windshield) the trim can be pulled out, old urethane cut out of the channel. Read urethaned, trim installed and you're good to go.If you don't like dealing with these people and semi steady handed. Go for it. Worse thing that could happen is you need to order that trim from toyota if it breaks. If you decide to just squirt some urethane under the trim, that might work as well. DO NOT use silicone.

I thought pretty much all modern automotive glass was "bonded", meaning that, at the factory they run a thick bead of adhesive/sealant and basically glue the windshield to the vehicle. If this is true can you still make a repair without removal of the windshield?

take it back have glass redone

the glass installer was in a hurry and did not follow procedures

    it is not rocket science,

more like frosting a cake, the blob has to be laid down
correctly with the right shaping and edging before they drop the glass on
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will say taking a tube of black silicone, and peeking back the gasket around the
glass and blasting is as much silicone sealer as you can shove in there, along the entire
top, will stop any leaks, but you are gonna trap water in on the pinch weld, and some years
later if you break the glass and it needs replacement, they may not be able to do it
if the pinch weld ended up too rusted.

better to get it redone right, which means glass is coming off again and they
need to install a new one. to fix it correctly, it cannot be 'patched' it has
to be another full glass replace where they saw out the old gasket with cutting line
    and bring in new glass

**someone above me said don't use silicone. don't know why, it works, doesn't cause problems I think (over ten years, no problems) and when glass does need to be replaced (tree branch hit my glass and busted it) old silicone can be cleaned off the pinch weld just fine....

true, and maybe. depends...I would demand all new glass (and done by some other tech, not the same tech who buggered the first job)

I think it's more likely you will make a bigger mess of things than the glass repair shop lol. At least that's how it would be with me if I tried to fix it. I'd rather they do it right, or I do it wrong and I end up paying for a new windshield because they won't cover my mistake.

For the Tacoma windshield, yes it is necessary. If you want it repaired correctly.

Took my truck in 2 weeks ago(forgot to post).
The owner personally took care of it. I guess on the tacoma windshields there's 2 pins that stick through 2 holes on the top. With aftermarket windshields they don't have the pins causing you to have to seal that area more then normal.

The apprentice missed that area slightly on 1 side causing it to leak through. If you pull the liner down a slight bit and look up you will see it on each side. of the truck. Almost inline with the middle of each seat.
The problem is fixed and was fixed properly, he didn't smear the shit over the leak.

Just thought I'd revive this for info. Had Toyota replace my windshield and now mine is leaking in the same spot as OP. Will take it back and have them fix, but this may be helpful for those who have windshields replaced.

hey guys i had my windshield replaced around 6 months ago and same thing happened returned to truck with and inch of water in drivers side floor board called safelite to complain about the matter and tech came back and fixed it with some sealant and now with some of these heavy rains we have had here in kentucky it started to leak on the passengers side and pouring out of center of roof right behind rear view mirror and pouring in on center console. The replacement window is not a toyota glass, thinking Im going to have them replace it again with the oem part this time. three times Ive had water in my truck, and its really pissing me off, never had water get in until they replaced the windshield

safelite said they would fix it and said if any damage had accrued from the leak they would cover it, just really sucks that there is electrical components in the roof where the crawl control knobs are, just a heads up when anyone has a windshield replaced
